Jbx5
I have been meaning to do a trip through into Norwich as moored in Brundall for a while and so as the weather has perked up it was enjoyed canopy down through as far as the Ribs of Beef watering hole. Andrewcook
Are you stopping at Norwich Yacht Station overnight? As to cruising while the Tide is out very good Photos are being taken on your cruising along the river.
kpnut
Looks lovely. One day I’ve promised myself to do that.

It was low water ish but had around 5ft water depth all through.
ExSurveyor
It is a pretty trip. I will be doing it again in the summer holidays.
Wussername
It is a magical place. The history of Norwich and the river is amazing. You do have to venture further than Bishops Bridge, however forbidden by those who hire. I have never understood why. Thus many have been denied a wonderful journey steeped in history.
grendel
it is indeed a wonderful trip, if you do go all the way to new mills, be aware there is a shallow between the mill race and the river proper, plenty deep up by the mill race, but stick to the left wall as you approach from down river, and again stick to that wall on the way back, because in the middle there is a shallow bar
Bluebell
It is a lovely trip right up to New Mills, it’s one I try to do at least once a year, along with all the other ends of navigation…😎

I was wondering why it's forbidden for hirers as well. Is it because it's not consistently deep enough for large modern craft?
Vaughan
I would guess it was because it was not a navigation. The top end of the yacht station was a big loading staithe, especially for the coal barges that supplied the gas works, against the hill at Bishop's bridge. There were several factories up there, such as Jarrolds printing works and the Norvic Shoe Co, as well as Bullards brewery, but I don't think there was a public staithe further up, so not much commercial traffic above the bridge. That's just a guess, but it may be the reason.
mjt
I've been interested to read this thread as we're planning to try to get into Norwich for the first (and possibly only) time and I was going to start a thread to ask for advice from seasoned members. Our airdraft is 8' 8" with canopy up and 7' 10" with it down. LOA about 27'. Where would members recommend we try to moor, bearing in mind we can only walk for quite a limited distance?
Jbx5
Norwich Yacht station is about the only decent easy mooring Mike. Good facilities pump out, showers etc. £8 by day, £16 24 hours. John
mjt
Thanks John. We wouldn't want to stay for long, just wander into the nearby parts of town and maybe grab a light bite to eat if there's anywhere within reach.
Jbx5
The yacht station is near the train station and is a fair walk through Prince of Wales road ( not the nicest area of the city ) to the centre. There are a couple of pubs and hotels that I’m sure you can get fed locally to the moorings. John 1
grendel
there are a couple of places to moor up further downstream, if for example you want to do some shopping, its just a short walk through to the shops, its just about a hundred yards or so downstream of the weatherspoons by the river. (basically it doesnt actively say no mooring there. 2
