Building On Way To Wayford Bridge

Recommended Posts

If my memory serves me right, on the way to Wayford Bridge you pass a what used to be a rather impressive looking (quite Romanesque) building with white pillars.   I was always told this used to be used in the first world war as a sanitorium.   How true that one is , is up for question.     Has anyone heard anything similar.      I may have got the wrong colour but if I recall it is green and white.    Is now in disrepair.

I know the building you are talking about which seems quite out of place where it is.  As for its history I have no idea unfortunately.

Heading towards Stalham,   take the left hand fork to Wayford Bridge ,  the building  it will be on your right , not immediately but you will eventually come to it.

I was told it was taken over and used in the WW1 as a Sanitorium.  I am really interested in the history of the Broads and this obviously has an interesting past.

Someone did ask the question , does the glass window show the sign of the Knights Templar?

Last time we passed it just looked like a dumping ground for tat.

Helen, I think you'll find that would be Latham's :default_biggrin:

Seriously though, how interesting, thank's for this Monica

Gracie, I hate to say that you’re wrong, but Lathams is where the tat originates from!

Interesting the pillars are not original but were taken from a shop front and fitted later. They are made of fibre glass.

Well there is your 'tat' for you.  Fibre glass,  oh dear!!

It was built as an isolation hospital for TB

Absolutely right it comes back to me now as the dear lady that told me has passed away. It was also used for military personnel convalescence.

Kindest Regards Marge and Parge

My Grandad passed away from TB just after I was born, I was given the vaccine and he got to see me before he passed- but that caused all sorts of ructions in later life with school innoculations, as naturally I came up positive on the scratch test when everyone else was innoculated.
