81011
Hi - can anyone share any experience of a recent visit to Somerleyton? I am interested in what the BA morings are like, plus also any reviews of The Dukes Head? TIA
NorfolkNog
We moored there in May. Good moorings. It was quiet then so only about 6 boats but may be busier now. There is a fair length of mooring avaiable. There is an un made track to the pub, about 5 minutes walk. Can be wet in winter but should be OK now. Good pub, dog friendly. Nice big garden at the side. Didnt try the grub but beer (Grain 316) was excellent. Popular pub. I think they close early on Sunday though.
Tigerhawk
We were there yesterday. Plenty of room at the moorings. No water but electric posts available. Dukes Head was excellent quality and the service was second to none. Only downside was the monsoon weather and the rather puddly walk up the hill to the pub. One of our favourite spots on the broads, the sunsets are always awesome.
Smoggy
Gotta be fishermans for sunsets, the outside deck is ideal.
Norfolkangler
It is one of my regular walks with the dogs and last time I was home (a couple of weeks ago) they had just cut the grass and it was looking good. On the downside, there was a yacht and another boat that had took up residence, and the first leccy post for the entire 4 weeks I was home.

Broads01
This thread has reminded me I haven't ever been to the Dukes Head. Sounds like I need to put that right.
BoatsmanJetsom
Lovely quiet mooring and some great sunsets in summer. Duke’s Head is a nice pub with good food and drink, maybe a touch expensive for some. They have bins at the entrance to the pathway leaving the mooring which is a real help. Only downside we’ve found is that sometimes a horn goes off at the bridge if trains are crossing during the night but that is a minor niggle.

It doesn’t normally bother me though.,
addicted
We've only ever used the Dukes Head once and that was a few years ago. It was very disappointing. They had a private function going on in a room very close to our table. Hoards of very small children constantly streamed in and out of the room, barging past our table and into us which made it very uncomfortable and the food wasn't particularly good either. Carole I think the management changed last year. 1

Landlady was very friendly although that could be attributed to Mrs Nog's gin bill As mentioned above the Grain 316 was excellent and proving very popular apperently. There are 2 distinct rooms and loads of room outside (weather permitting) so it should be possible to find a spot to your liking. We will certainly be back. Didnt get booted out early either
NorfolkNog
Not a great picture of the moorings, sorry, but room for quite a few boats. 2
Norfolkangler
I can't speak from experience as its been years since I last went in, but several of our friends have said that its well worth a visit. The chef has got a good reputation. Its on our list to visit as we only live a few miles up the road.

Andrewcook
Norfolkangler I like your Winter morning 7 am photo at Somerleyton but I will be going to the Dukes Head in September by road and I'm not too fond of the Snow in that Winter Photo lets hope it will be a Warmer pleasant September 2024
Norfolkangler
If I was a betting man, I would say you should miss any snow in September. Should still be able to take advantage of the outdoor garden at that time of year.

Norfolkangler
You should be OK whatever the weather, as Mr Nogg posted earlier, it's dog friendly.
