Guest DAYTONA-BILL
Hi all, perhaps this should be asked of the w44nted one?. A few months ago (last year), i read an article in one of the weekly angling papers about a club that were holding a fishing match on the river Severn during the 2011 close season. They notified the EA, who duely sent along several of their enforcement officers who had no authority to stop them fishing, because they were officially fishing for "EELS". It turns out that that you can legally fish for eels year round on the river severn, so i was wondering if it is legal to fish for eels during the close season on the Broads. There are legal requirements on what size hooks and what type of tackle you are allowed to use, and possibly even baits too. Does anybody know anything about it, or where i can get any relevant information, as the EA may just say it`s NOT legal when it might actually be legal, if you see what i mean. Antares_9
http://www.fishingmagic.com/forums/general-fishing/18038-eel-fishing-closed-season.html Though with Eels being yet another species under pressure and returning elvers in decline it's probably best to leave them alone even if you are alowed to fish for them in a particular area. Guest DAYTONA-BILL
Thanks David, though it`s not clear on there either. I was just thinking how much of an "inconvenience" it would be if you caught any other species of fish while fishing legitimately for eels
donnygeoff
probably not as much of an "inconvenience" as if you were fishing for normal fish (in the season) and catching a blerdy slimy, wriggly, can't get hold of it eel.

I`ve done that before, and yes, they are bloody awful slimy wriggly things. God alone knows why people from East London eat so many of the jellied ones. Excuse me while i just go to the loo......................
