Gracie
They suggest going along to Strumpshaw Fen seeking them out in the ditches......I really don't think so, they can stay in the ditches thank you very much Grace x
Bikertov
I can't believe people willingly and purposefully bred and released the bloomin' things All I know is that since I got my boat, I have discovered the riverside/countryside is full of spiders and spiders webs They are everywhere, all over and in my boat. No sooner have I cleared a web than it reappears with even more of the blighters living on them 5

I didn't see any, just as well really as youngest granddaughter doesn't cope well with spiders. The boat has been very attractive to spiders this year, 4 weeks in and my regular dusk spider hunt is still providing lots of food for the fish.

Thought it was just me that did a dusk spider hunt 😂 They have certainly been active this season 🙈

What would you do then?

Spiders are your best housekeepers for catching midges, flies, horseflies, pretty much anything that flies and bites you at night. And I'm pretty sure a spiders web in front of the bonded locker will render it safe from Gracie.

LizG
Fen Raft Spiders are a class of their own - not for the faint hearted! I saw one at Lopham Fen some years ago! However, this even me jump yesterday. A bag had sat under the desk in my daughter's old room so I thought I would move it!!! This was on it! As I took a photo it ran away and I hadn't dared tell anyone living in the house that it is under the bed now!
Wonderwall
Spiders are the kings of the little beastie world. ( well maybe the mighty ant would give them a run for their money.) Next time you see a spider making a web, shine your phone torch on it and watch, it's an incredible sight. The skill and agility is stunning. As someone said earlier , they kill all the things which actually do want to cause us harm, or contaminate our food. Mon the spiders 😁.
floydraser
Anyone know how to get spiders to politely move, as in relocate? I have tiny little versions which weave very fine webs around the door mirrors of my car. I think they hide behind the glass where it's very difficult to get at them. I wondered if there was something which made them want to be somewhere else?
Smoggy
Quote I wondered if there was something which made them want to be somewhere else? Horse chesnut oil, it's the main agent in "no more spiders" spray. 2

I know this sounds like an old wives tale, and I was extremely sceptical, but between late Sept and about March/April I hardly have any spiders on the boat. I gather conkers (ie the horsechestnuts above) and put a pot full in each cabin etc, even in the front well when the canopy is down. It really does seem to work. I expect by spring the chemical being given out runs out of umph. I suppose just ‘cos we can’t smell something doesn’t mean they can’t. A bit like the pheremone tabs I use at the allotment to lure male plum moths, apple codling moths and raspberry beetles to their sticky trap. No maggots!
annv
Hi Conkers only work in enclosed spaces. I planted a Horse Chestnut tree in our yard to ensure a yearly supply of conkers, one of the better things i have done that has worked for me. Andrewcook
As the Rivers Morning Few comes up the Spiders thrive on doing a web any where on the Boats they have to be Cleared away for day sand before the laddies seem that. would make any body day on that issue, As for Cars and indoors get Spider catcher and put it outside safely

I have put conkers in the garage before now because I heard the same old wive's tale! So I'll tie a conker to each end of a shoe lace and fix around the door mirror. If nothing else, the clacking noise as I drive along should deafen the little b*ggers!
