Davydine
Hi everyone, I have read some good reports on here about the quality of food and ale at the Sutton Staithe Hotel, so we were thinking of adding that to the plan for our next Broads trip. Could anyone comment on the likelihood of availability of an overnight mooring at Sutton Staithe? I have it in my mind that I have read comments that there are limited moorings with some long term residents overstaying there. Obviously I don't expect a crystal ball prediction, but is it one of those places like Horning, you consider yourself very lucky if you manage to get a mooring? Thanks, David

bucket
It is definitely worth adding to your list. Good food and beer and excellent service the last couple of times we are there in May and July. The green is often busy although we got on there both times but there are moorings on the dike and as long as you don't leave it too late you should get a space. Just one thing, avoid Saturdays unless you call the pub first to check. Twice last year when we were there, there was a wedding reception which resulted in no food available in the bar. And just one more thing, don't be put off by the stories about the live aboards. I have never had any issues at all when mooring next to them, if fact they helped us moor up last month.
NeilB
There's only one 30 footer permanently moored on the 24hr moorings, the rest come and go so as long as you don't leave it too late you should be ok. As Abouttime said Sutton boatyard has a bookable mooring for a tenner. The food and beer did decline a couple of years ago but I've heard good things recently so as it's one of my locals I may give it another go.

Broads01
The moorings tend to fill up quite early in my experience (not unusual for a mooring near a pub) but there's a reasonable length if you plan ahead. It's very popular for Richardsons hirers on their last night. There's roar noise from the nearby A49 but it's not too intrusive.

That's what I thought might be the case, I am thinking that if we need to, we cam always moor at Richardsons and walk back to the hotel.
SwanR
I think it probably depends on day and time of year. In my experience it’s the moorings by the green with electric hookup and water that fill up quickly. The ones that you go past first are less likely to be full. Worth going for a Wednesday as there won’t be likely to be boats leaving Richardson’s that day or positioning themselves for the next morning. We’ve always enjoyed our meals there but haven’t visited for quite a long time.
