ExSurveyor
We had a huge thunderstorm overhead at 3am. Lightening struck a neighbour's big pine tree and split it open. The fire brigade arrived and put it out and made it safe as it was close to some of their outbuildings. It was strong enough to trip our power circuits but not the lights. It blew the TV , WiFi and landline that are all Virgin media, all are dead. My next task is to rig up the laptop and link it to my mobile to watch F1 later. At least virgin are out on Wednesday, I think they might be busy in this area.

CeePee1952
I think we've got off lightly here so far, just a steady downpour at the moment although we did experience a bit of rolling thunder during the night. Weather forecast for the rest of the day is continual heavy rain so we might have a bit of local flooding laterΒ Chris
Gracie
A few streaks of lightening and distant thunder last night. We had relatives staying over, they brought Prosecco, the only big bang I have is in me ruddy headΒ I quite like a thunderstorm though Grace x 3

Happy
In Hawkinge Kent in the early hours I think we had just one flash of lightening and a distant rumble.Β Lucky as the dog goes crazy if its bad.Β She hears the thunder well before we do.Β
SwanR
Nothing in my part of Norfolk. It was hot and sunny yesterday. This morning is overcast but still warm if a little humid when out of the breeze. No rain. We enjoyed sitting outside the Granary at Ranworth with a coffee this morning, watching the boats arriving.Β

ExSurveyor
I have gone back to mid 80s technology.Β An analogue TV with an indoor aerial running through an ancient digi box. I might spend all evening adjusting the aerial, just like the old days. Fortunately we are only a few miles away from the transmitter at Blue Bell Hill. Not sure if I will wear my glasses or use a set of binoculars. 1

jpd
We were out Maize harvesting until midnight last night, on the Kent Sussex border. Out in open fields with what seemed like the most intense lightning storm going on around us and overhead was quite spectacular. 1
grendel
it was raining at just before 6am in canterbury as i headed for the boot fair near dover, got out of the rain before I arrived and round a rather small boot fair, back in the car at 6.38 as it had started drizzling, 1/2 mile down the road when the heavens opened apparently most of the stalls stuck it out and by 2 hours later the weather was glorious.

Only just finished flowering. It seems shorter this year too. Maybe Yorkshire in a cold and then dry year is still pushing it a bit. We forget the Severn/Wash line used to be classed as the northern limit of maize.Β

Some of it is barely ready though, some farmers are keen to get it off and plant grass seed. Yields have been quite good but inconsistent on some farms. GaryandDawn
There was heavy rain here in seaford on south coast last night, but no rain today, we are on the broads in two weeks for a week on a Broom captain so hopefully the storms will have calmed down a bit, although it is quite nice listening to rain while lying in bed
kpnut
This second half of September has often been a bit wild and unpredictable over the past few years. Twice Iβve hired in the time period and twice Iβve been caught by high winds and rain. So much so that on one occasion we had to moor side-on at Salhouse on the advice of the ranger to save pulling out the mooring posts.Β LooksΒ like itβs going to be a miserable week up here, indoor jobs will get done.Β
marshman
Weather around the autumnal equinox can be very unpredictable with storms, often accompanied by high winds. Tides will be higher - which they were! Very high at Surlingham the other day with the grass outside the front flooded for a time.

ExSurveyor
Update, Virgin media are still not sorting the problem out, there is an ongoing interference fault in the area and the "computer says" they can't send an engineer out as it might be the minor fault on the system. I don't know how many times I have explained that the internal equipment is dead. Ten days and nothing. Having spoken to the CEOs office I now have an engineer coming out on Thursday, allegedly. Having checked every appliance in the house I found that the DVD, alarm system and the telephone hand set system were all blown. I managed to fix all except the dvd. The next problem was it had blown the fan in the range cooker, it is 20 years old and the manufacturers engineer wrote it off, all for a sensor switch. Madness. I swapped to Tesco home insurance in July so made a claim as the range replacement was over Β£2000. They were excellent, the whole claim was dealt with and approved in 4 hours. The new range arrived today, unpacked, installed and the old one and all packaging taken away.Β Another excellent service from a supplier in Leicester, they were also Β£400 cheaper than the big companies. It is taking some getting used to as the previous one was cream but it goes well with the original splashback. Having gone down with viral gastroenteritis 3 weeks ago I have been wiped out and am still struggling and could have done without this hassle. On the plus side I have lost 10lbs but suspect it will be another couple of weeks before I am firing on all cylinders. I had the same thing the day after we were married many years ago, that took four weeks to get over and I was a mere 19 years old. I think Matron is regretting promising in sickness and health. π· Β Β

kpnut
Ha, the wonderful Stoves range. I have had one for 8 yrs, just love it, especially the warming oven/slow cooker. The darker the colour, the more it shows the dust as I found out when I bought a black one after my daughter had a cream one. Think I might have used the same company. Certainly a lot cheaper.Β That splash back is just ace. At first, I thought Gracie had somehow superimposed the wind glass onto your photoπ Get well soon, not a nice bug at all.Β Β Β
