Trowse rail bridge

Is Trowse rail bridge able to swing at the moment and is it by request or set times?

To be honest I seem to recall hearing that it had been welded shut permanently! I might be wrong of course! It has been known!

Update on bridges - 5 Nov 2013 Trowse Bridge - Not operational (but can be opened at very restricted times, see below)

  Network Rail have informed us that the current testing has been exhausted without achieving reliable operations of the bridge. Outside contractors are now being sought to rectify the reliability problems.

Due to the fact that the bridge has been out of action for some time Network Rail have agreed that they are willing to swing the bridge manually by bringing in plant staff when required. Due to the frequency of London trains and the time it takes to operate a swing manually the bridge can be opened on a Sunday at 09:05 and any night between 02:00 and 04:00 provided seven days' notice has been given to allow for plant staff to be on site. Openings within these times can be arranged by contacting Network Rail through their Area Incident Control Centre. This is staffed 24/7 and they will then pass on the request to the Ipswich Distribution & Plant team for a response.

Ranworthbreeze, my boat would have no problem with the bridge however for this trip I think the boat I am on is about 9 foot so no chance. Jtf when is the album out?

You can always moor at Whittlingham Meadows and catch the bus into the city

A boat with a 9ft airdraft should be able to get under Trowse most of the time without needing it opened.

 

The average high water clearance for Trowse is usually published as 9ft, and the normal rise and fall on the Wensum at Norwich is 2ft, so the air draft under Trowse on average varies betweem 9ft at high tide and 11ft at low tide.

Hello Ian,

 

Our air daft with everything down is 9 foot 8 inches and we have been just beyond the Norwich Yacht station without any of the bridges being opened.

You have to arrive at the correct tides however to get through the first bridge.

Ranworthbreeze, just checked the tables and looks like when we get there its high tide, but will still give it a look.
