Hockham Admiral
It's amazing what you find when you move after 34 years in one home... especially with large outbuildings and barns full of bits which "might come in useful one-day"! :naughty: So can anyone tell me where the boat auctions , (apart from the Norwich Show Ground and Wroxham ones), are around here? :bow

It's not an auction, but private sellers can book table space to sell off any boating/fishing items. I had a table there one year, with a couple of mates. "roll up roll up...." It's run by the Museum of the Broads at Stalham. This year it's on Sunday 11th May. http://www.museumofthebroads.org.uk/2014-events.html It's nowhere near as big as the main UK wide boat jumbles, but still very enjoyable. I always manage to buy yet more junk to fill my shed with. I really miss the Woods Dyke Auctions. Lot's of real bargains there, and convenient to sell things on too. C.Ricko
Don't Arnolds or Keys do one in Wroxham?
Guest
Don't Arnolds or Keys do one in Wroxham? If you mean the twice yearly one in the Bure Valley Railway car park, then yes, Irelands still do them. I didn't mention that one though because John had mentioned it in his question. http://www.irelands.co.uk/auctions.html
VetChugger
Failing that, Horners hold weekly auctions at Acle with regular "specialist" auctions. Not specifically boats I know but you can put owt into a general sale! http://www.horners.co.uk/ Trevor

Thanks for that but unfortunately we're at the Spring Meet that weekend and our boat's not big enough to carry all the bits we want to sell! We've got local auctions near us, Trevor, and the problem is most of our stuff is specialist boat/yacht orientated and might only attract scrap value! (e.g. for the 35lb CQR plough). There's always Ebay..... As you say, the things like the anchor are impractical to post, but you can always specify "collect only". Although Woods Dyke was very convenient for selling boat bits, there's actually far more money via ebay, because you're selling to a vastly wider audience. Many used items go for retail, such is the enthusiasm for some people to "win" an auction. I used to occasionally buy one of the lucky dip cardboard boxed collections at Woods Dyke for a fiver, then sell some of the contents on Ebay for as much as £30 or so, (after carefully looking through the contents before bidding !). You'd do much better to wait about two months before selling though, the seasonal variation in interest and prices for boating bits is ludicrous. MBA Marine
I 2nd/3rd the Ebay option, if you have the time to do you will get 5x what you would get via an auction, if you just want shot then auction and let others profit from you. I am slowly clearing the decks through Ebay it does eat time but even with their fees you come out pretty well, I use couriers for posting as it takes out the hassle of getting to a over priced post office (unless international the post office are often better for that), im fortunate where I live and can just leave the packages on my doorstep for the courier to collect when im out at work. You also then have the option with money in a Paypal account do I bank it or do I use it to buy things I actually want of Ebay?
stumpy
Sorry for the thread drift but I had a great conversation with a stall holder at the last Suffolk boatjumble. "How much for the two rhond hooks mate?" "What's a rhond hook?", " These"(waving them about) "Quid for the two alright?" I took him up on it - seemed rude to haggle. Result!!
