6 inches off the bottom of a river is a lot of water that will not go over the bank.....

Rising sea levels, increasingly wet weather, Tidal surges.

 

You can't beat nature when it doesn't play by the rules, however, you can use the natural world in your favour, allowing the low lying natural flood plains to do there job "flood" it will ease the pressure on the important city dwellers in places like London.

 

I obviously don't suggest for one minute that such tactics would be considered by the powers that be, the above are merely the musings of a grumpy old man.
