DaylightGate
Just dropped in to say hello. I have cruised the Broads on hire boats for many years now and decided to take the plunge. Yes I have have my own money pit for the last year, must admit you can't beat it for absolute pleasure. Bounty 34 sedan I was cruising last weekend and came across the meet at Salhouse, looked like a lot of fun. Unfortunately not too much time to socialise. SPEEDTRIPLE
Hi Gary, we saw you cruising by and think you`ve bought forumite "Jimbo"`s boat. I could be wrong, i`m sure someone will be along to correct me if i am. As it turns out, Jimbo was there on the weekend, so had you have stopped, and it WAS his old boat, you could have had quite a chat. Welcome to the forum Gary, i used to live in Kent, and know a few Gary`s, so i might know you?. Happy cruising matey, and enjoy the forum .......................... Neil. DaylightGate
Hi Speedtripple Thanks for the welcome. Yes M501 I think is Jimbo's old boat.. I must say that she is a very good cruiser and is very comfortable. I intend to give her the TLC that she deserves. I have renamed her and she is in the process of getting repainted, but I am having a fight with a Willow tree where I am moored. I will get it sorted. I hail from Chatham and there are a lot of Gary's about, may be we have met in the past. I have a feeling that Jimbo may have taken some photos as I cruised past, I would like to see them if he did as it is not easy to get photos of her as she is going along when your driving. DaylightGate
Hi Jonzo I am glad that you had good times on her, when I saw her I knew that she was the right boat for me, Yes she is a little different now, she has crossed the Pennines and wears a red rose now and that is where the name Daylight Gate comes from. I will be very interested in seeing the photos of her in action. Thanks Gary

DaylightGate
Thank you all for the warm and friendly welcome. I will keep an eye out for you all whilst mooching about, good to see that I have company from my locale. I am hoping to go to the South early in July, an area that I have only ventured to once. Yarmouth could prove interesting. I am glad you like the way the make over is going, the aft cover does make a big difference. ( I am hoping to get up this weekend to get the the paint brush out to do a bit more, weather permitting.) I moor at Wayford a really nice quiet area with a good watering hole at the Wayford Inn. Burgee duly ordered and I am looking forward to meeting with you all during my travels. :waveGary

DaylightGate
Thanks Admiral, it will be aboard on Saturday. Were you moored at Sutton before the meet? I think that I recognise your cruiser as we were along there for fuel etc. Phsycicsurveyor, JawsOrca, LittleSprite Do you cruise the north side? If so I am sure our paths will cross. Thanks for the welcome. Gary

I'll look out for you (My parents boat is called "Sweet Kingfisher".. I'm only 30 something so if its a grey old git at the wheel that's my dad! Happy sailing. SGWilko
Sorry folks. A belated official 'hello' from me. Not sure why I didn't see the new members thread earlier! I hail from Kent, albeit a village on the fringes of Dartford - Sutton At Hone. I was introduced to the Broads with three friends back in 1990, when we hired Outon Pearl (I think it was) from Oulton Broad (surprisingly!!). The boat was (I think) a Dawncraft Illusive 35. We were 19 at the time, and I think probably quite lucky to get our deposit back - we were quite hopeless as the boat would get taken by the wind very easily! Didn't get back into hiring until 2010, when the kids were old enough, and have hired every year since then. We've hired; Amber Gem 3 2010 Hawaii 2011 & 2012 Broadland Mercury 2013 Broadsman 6 2014. We've got Broadland Breeze 2 booked for October, and Challenger 1 booked for Easter next year. Addictive this Broads lark, init!? . Stuart. Ooops - Sorry - thread hijack! New thread now started. :embarrassed:

SPEEDTRIPLE
Although i now live down here in VERY sunny dorset, i hail from Kent too. I was born in a little village called Birling just outside Snodland, moved to Gravesend, then to Kingswood near Leeds Castle, then back to Northfleet. 8 years ago, i moved down here permanently. We do still go up to Kent to see family, but not as often as i`d like to. Next time we go, i`l have a look at Jaws Orca`s (Allan) boat in Hoo. Maybe we should all arrange a Kentish forum meet some day?.
