Cigarette Lighter Plug

If I remember correctly, the tip is positive and the outside is negative

Thinking about it, that would make a lot of sense...

 

Agreed.

 

Although back in the pre 60's there were some "Positive Earth" cars, I've never seen a car cigar lighter socket wired any other way than tip positive, and sleeve negative.

 

Likewise, the overwhelming majority of small coaxial power plugs (as used on computers etc., are tip positive, sleeve negative as well.

 

As you say, it's logical, because the positive is them more enclosed on the female sockets.
