ranworthbreeze
Do any of know if the two Broads Authority launches that were for offered for sale in January were sold? The bids had to be in by the end of March but at over £25000 they may still be moored up somewhere. Here is the original report in the Anglia Afloat from January.http://www.angliaafloat.co.uk/news/would_you_like_to_buy_a_river_ranger_s_boat_rare_chance_to_snap_up_patrol_vessel_used_on_the_norfolk_broads_1_3212517I was just interested to know the outcome of the sale for these classic launches, which IMHO should still be in service.RegardsAlan
quo vadis
Alan these vessels can no longer be used on the broads because of the "quote" 5 feet waves encountered on Breydon, BA's words not mine
ExMemberBobdog
Barton is definitely not sold. It's still moored at the BA base at Womack/Ludham and is occasionally used by the BA for training exercises.
ExMemberBobdog
Update on this. Rumour has it that having failed to attract any offers, the BA has now asked a broker at Potter Heigham to take over the handling of the sale(s), at a significantly lowered price. The launches will soon be moored at the brokers for viewing purposes.
Guest
I thought they'd be difficult to sell except at a knock-down price. Although well built to a high spec, the design is too specialist for the average private boater. The hulls are almost 30ft long, yet with Dayboat sized accommodation, and a relatively narrow beam. I would guess they'll end up being bought by someone with an expensive riverside property, being a sort of modern day slipper launch... marshman
The one that was at Womack has, I believe, gone up to Waterside as suggested but is not on their books yet.
ExMemberBobdog
Yup, they're good for the purpose for which they were designed/built, but difficult to see an alternative use.
Guest
The BA launch BARTON is most definitely at Waterside(potter) tucked up inside one of the wet sheds.... had a look around it last Sunday. Not with a view to buy ... just being nosey.
ExMemberBobdog
Rumour has it that one of the two BA launches has now been sold, but for rather less than the asking price.
Guest
I believe one of them now belongs to the residents of the first bungalow just outside HWs on the river. Had to chuckle as everybody was being very cautious and slow when passing it lol. Not sure who has the other one but it had a sold ticket on it last weekend. The owners of that place are always complaining about 'speeders' ... perhaps that's why they bought the launch, as a visual deterrent? Guest
I'm pretty sure they only bought that bungalow this year... The BA launch fits nicely in their mooring.
Guest
It's the first bungalow on the repps side.... They also got a nice looking summer house built this year. Will have a look tomorrow morning to see which one of the two launches it is.
