Outboard wont go anywhere, week off work, help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I was meant to leave saturday for a week of cruising and fishing but my outboard wont go.

It starts first pull, idles perfectly but when put in forward or reverse gear and accelerated it revs up with no thrust to move the boat.

I've removed the prop to check for wear on the spline shaft and the hub washer and neither are damaged.

I've tried turning the prop by hand in gear and it spins both ways without major resistance but i can hear no grinding so cant imagine there being anything broken inside.

Could anyone have any idea what it could be as this is my only week of till june Next Year and i really want to get out on my boat.

Thanks in advance Branden :-D

Sorted :D. The problem was an easy fix thank god. The gear shift was detached from the arm, so when on the boat it was hidden from view hence why I thought it was changing gear when it was actually stuck In neutral. I've attached a photo of the part I mean incase it happens to anyone else. Thanks for the advice forumites Branden

P.s I've attached a photo of the prop section I clean with 400 wet dry sand paper.
