Timbo
The Cutty Sark has once again gone up in flames Personally I think 650XS needs to bring her back to Wayford for a proper restoration!
Wussername
Thankfully the fire was contained. It was fortunate that the Cutty Sark was not completely lost during the first fire. This second incident could have resulted in her loss for ever. Old Wussername
ranworthbreeze
A friend of mine who had dived on the Mary Rose was at a reunion in Portsmouth, he had to report a security guard who was smoking aboard HMS Warrior.RegardsAlan
grendel
The Ropery at Chatham dockyard is a red alert if it catches fire with about 26 fire engines called out if its alarms go off, this is mostly due to the hemp dust and fibres from the manufacture of the ropes, these have impregnated everywhere and are highly combustible, also when you consider the building is over a mile long you can understand why it is a no smoking zone. Polly
Phill trained at GEC as an apprentice. The Spon Street factory in Coventry was a listed building and, having been a Raleigh Cycle works before was impegnated with oil. At least three fire services were listed to attend sharpish in case of a fire.
ExSurveyor
Grendal, the Ropery might seem a mile long but is only a quarter of a mile. I spent one Easter, 30 years ago rolling 45 gallon drums of white spirit based wood treatment from one end to the others, now that was a fire hazard. I had to confiscate all lighters and matches and lock them up.
grendel
I know when we rewired it, we had to be very careful, that and we bought our electricians bicycles, as you couldnt go from one side across to the other - you had to go round the end.
