Fish Finders

A question for anyone who uses a fish finder - what make/model do you use and is it any good?

 

I am looking for one to use on a small 12ft open dinghy and would prefer to use something like the Hummingbird portable model, but seen mixed reviews of it (in fact all of them). I don't have a 12v system on the dinghy so might have to use a small external battery - ideally would rather not if the finder/power pack was all in one unit, but would do this if it meant getting a better unit.

 

There are so many now that choosing one is a nightmare.

 

I have used them before and am really looking for it to highlight contours rather than locate a lonely monster!
