Broad Ambition - Underway on the H2O

Recommended Posts

No, way too early for that and needed to get back to wetshed  so five family members could depart for home at a decent hour. Plus we are using Richo’s laundry, visiting High st, clean throughout prior to sailing to meet up with eighteen woodies at Stracey for bank side bbq, and overnight. Btw, it’s proper hot n sunny but nicely cooler in here

Thursday 12th Aug Day 8

The Flotilla sailed at 0700 sharp meandering down river to arrive at the infamous yellow post at 0830 which gave us a push across Breydon and up the Waveney. We arrived at OBYS for around 1100 where we met up with some woodies already there. All berthed on the floating pontoon.

Pam & Steve (Breamslayet) arrived onboard as expected

1400 ‘B.A’ was pressed into taxi duties ferrying guests over to a garden party and return for 1630. Then it was socialising with friends. We had dinner from the Mermaid chippy onboard- recommended and eventually lights out

Friday 13th August Day 9

After the normal Purdey walk now with Ollie dog (Steve’s Romanian rescue dog) the forenoon was spent readying craft for the cruise in Company to Beccles. Some more arrivals including Malanka with her freshly repaired gearbox. Dressing lines & flags in place, Bollysnigh with some unique and very special dressing flags

Arrived at Beccles, all safely berthed and sorted. Here we’ll stay till Monday morning

Monday 16th August Day 12

After doing a final bank tidy the remaining woody craft departed. We where the last to leave. Robin departed in his car to meet us at Geldestone. After clearing Beccles old road bridge at 7ft3” MrsG asked - Where’s Purdey?

Come about, back under t bridge to find her on t green. Robin had popped back from his car to visit the shoreside heads. Rang us as we we were turning round to say Purdey is here but you’re not!

One errant absent without shore leave dog collected, we cleared t bridge for the third time of asking in about fifteen minutes  A meander to the Locks Inn as the rain commenced, the top was still down so carried out a hasty erection

No berthing room so gratefully alongside Evening Lightning  The Lock itself is being repaired. ‘Our’ brick is now in place

Into ‘My’ pub for a small DTS and lunch - recommended and to collect my shares certificate

The rain had stopped so we sailed 7ft2” under t bridge for the fourth time. Saw a boat with a really good name.

Destination the Yare / Chet & Loddon, nearly six hours with me on the helm and Purdey carrying out a set of regular upper deck rounds in between upper deck naps.

We got a space on the quay which was lucky, Grendel letting us know as we came up the Chet on a very high flood tide. What was not lucky was the chippy being shut for maintenance. Did some fishing off t bow - productive

I have a sore Stbd arm, this occurred as it was severely wrenched by Purdey / lead as she surprisingly took hersen into the Swan pub door as we were passing on her evening walk. I administered alcoholic pain relief in the traditional manner

Back onboard, DVD and lights out

Externally, it does lack ‘kerb appeal.’  Looks okay inside, but why did they paint the outside that revolting blue colour?  Must have done a deal with Del Boy, I guess, or the owner supports the same team as Ian.
