Moosey
Hi! Just a quick one, we are back on the broads soon for our second time The one thing I we struggled with last time was getting the speed right, do any of you use speed apps and if so could you recommend one for apple please? Thanks so much!

Baitrunner
Speed box had always been reliable for me on a 4s abd 5s.
ChrisB
Sailing Droid works very well on android or get Viewranger plus the local tiles or 1:25000 Broads National Park OS which I think costs about £12 for the mapping. You will then not only have speed but a plotter as well.
Wussername
I use sternwash. I look back at my wash and say to myself "oh dear! I must slow down". Seems to work. Never been shouted at yet!
Hockham Admiral
Hosheasons boating maps gives you broads maps and position & speed. It's a free app for android... don't know about ipad/phone.

Brundall1037
Try "Saildroid" and "Ulysse Speedometer". Both are good for slow/walking speeds and show to 1 decimal place
BryanW
The Hoseasons app is indeed available for IOS (iPhone) and works well, speed is only in round mph, no decimals, but is perfectly adequate and gives accurate positioning. SueH
I must admit we have an old sat nav which we take on board that does the business! I've only just got a phone that I can download apps onto anyway. SueH

I've only just got a phone that I can download apps onto anyway. SueHHi Sue,We have done that, but she who must be obeyed (no not Tan) the voice on the sat nav, gets very upset when we wont turn left or right off of the river. It does however give you the correct MPH. RegardsAlan
NonTecky
I have used various apps on my phone and they all work pretty well, BUT I find that they add to the battery drain. (I always find this worse on the broads where the device is searching for cell towers all the time!) Anyhow, I bought a secondhand Garmin Etrex thing from Ebay @£25 and that worked a treat! Rincewind
The Garmin E-Trex Venture is our weapon of choice. Small, robust, accurate and you won't have to sell a kidney to procure one.
Seriously
Just got the app speed tracker for the I phone tried it in the car seems to work ok . Digital and clock and on the clock face you can change it 0-12 so when running at 5 mph will be able to see it clearly . Can't wait to use it on the river I'll let you know .
