Buckenham Ferry

I wonder how many of you visiting or passing the Beauchamp Arms on the Yare realise that at one time the Buckenham Ferry used to run from there. This atmospheric picture from Victorian times is short on detail but is typical of an early October morning mist that is often to be encountered on the river.

There were a number of ferries on the Yare, for example at Reedham, Cantley, Buckenham, Coldham, and Surlingham.

One of the many wonderful photographs of the Broads taken by Peter Henry Emerson.

There are some more interesting old photos and postcards of Buckenham Ferry in a blog post I did about the ferry last year ... follow the link at the bottom of that page for further updates to the story too. I need to get a further update done as I received and email only this week from someone who sent me news cuttings about a very tragic incident there in the 1920s.
