Les
hi eveveryone not long now until my little adventure on the broads. For the last 20 years or so I have hired either house boats or cottages, but before that I used to hire cruisers in the autumn. Does anyone know if there is a company that hires boats out in the winter? Ideally I,m looking for a small craft as I come down by myself for 10 days of pike fishing ! ranworthbreeze
Hello Les, Welcome to the NBN forum. You may find that hiring a boat out of season could be a problem to even for a small group let alone a single handed crew. Hopefully other forum members may know of a boatyard that may be able to help you. When are you coming down to the Broads? Regards Alan
JawsOrca
Les we saw a Faircroft Loynes boat out last weekend (http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/boat-holidays/faircraft-loynes-wro002). I'm not sure if they will hire to a lone sailor though. Probably worth a call though
BuffaloBill
I saw 3 Faircraft boats go out on Tuesday lunchtime so they are hiring still but I did think that they shut down for the winter. I'm not sure if they do this year, but Herbert Woods were hiring last year at this time. Barnes Brinkcraft stop hiring from the end of October until March as do Royalls.
Baitrunner
I know Ricko's hire out in early March before a lot of the others and may well hire out over the rest of the winter.
NorfolkNog
Hi I do have quite a bit of experience re winter hire. I'm afraid the only yard which will definitely hire is Faircraft Loynes. If you can wait until February Herbert Woods start hiring then. Other yards may hire at their discretion but will only consider doIng this if you are very well known to them. Afraid my knowledge of fishing is zero but wonder if another option would be to hire a small dory type craft with an outboard and work from a cottage or apartment? Good luck! BroadScot
Hi Les, Welcome to the NBN Forum. Sadly I cannot help on finding a hire boat, the other members have given you the choice that are possibly available. Iain.
Oddfellow
Freedom hires from February to November for cruisers. Restricted choice at the beginning of the year normally due to winter maintenance and other operational challenges in the cold months. We will hire day boats and fishing boats throughout the year if the weather does not dictate that we have to winterise them.
