  1. Perhaps as a consolation Essexgirl you will like this shot by Terry Baldrey. I think the last Foxglove in hire was from Bridgecraft (name escapes me) who restored her to a varnished superstructure.
Anyone interested in 60/70s hire boats, have a look at Terry's home page on Flickr. Fascinating collection. Mainly Richardsons. https://www.flickr.com/photos/41409347@N07/

That's a lovely photo. Thank you.

  2. Just remembered, after Foxglove had left one of Fletcher's Westering Homes moored a little nearer.
It came in too fast and hit us in the stern causing a foot long split in the transom.
Great to see a picture of a Foxglove class. My parents had one and I have many happy memories of her. As an adult when I got my first boat I spent a long time cruising about looking to see if I could find one to no avail. After much cruising I eventually saw one moored up just outside of Beccles. The next time we were up she had sunk and remained there for quite some time. Very sad. If I remember rightly there was a Salmon postcard of a Foxglove class moored outside the Horning Ferry Inn. I have searched numerous times on EBay but have yet to find one.

  3. Sorry if this has already been posted but I've just been flicking through the Christmas edition of the Radio Times and noticed that on 2nd January at 6.30pm on BBC2 there is a new series of Great British Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo. The first episode is set in Norfolk and Michael  is "learning the ropes on board a wherry." Later the same evening on More4 at 9pm there is Episode 3 of Penelope Keith's Coastal Villages where she visits the villages of East Anglia.

  4. We just use the cheapest loo roll from Aldi (other supermarkets are available) and have never had a problem. Today's cheap loo roll is quite good quality. Never had a problem with it disintegrating or falling apart at inopportune moments.

  5. Have just got back from a week away on the Southern Rivers - well just the Yare and Chet as we moor at Loddon. We ate at The White Horse at Chedgrave- our local - never a bad meal and also the Coldham Hall as they couldn't fit us in at the Surlingham Ferry. Had a fab meal at Coldham Hall. Burgers to die for. Also had the best Ham, Egg and Chips there last summer that I have ever had. Great service. Would heartily recommend.

  6. That is lovely. Well done. Being an ex-police officer myself (my husband still is) I like the idea of having a lasting memento. Essex are closing lots of their stations too. I will have to see if my husband can salvage the custody counter at our local nick, when the time comes!

  7. Thank you all very much for your suggestions. It has given us lots to think about. We definitely won't be going down the Holly and Teak route now and will have a good look at all the options online. We fitted some Goliath fooring in our kitchen and utility room recently and while it is a lino, it is very thick and bouncy and warm underfoot, even in the winter, so might consider that.

Once again, thank you for all your suggestions. Still can't believe there was actually a bath in the rear cabin!!!

  8. Luckily when Maffetts had her, they spruced her up quite a bit. We're still working on the interior at the moment as we can't decide what to do on the exterior (and need the funds as I want to do it properly). Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Holly and Teak flooring ?

  9. Hi. Some of you may remember that we became the proud owners of the ex-Sabena/Maffets hire craft Kestrel earlier on this year. We have started some internal improvements on her and now think that the current layout may not be the original. She was built in 1990, so we were wondering if any forumites may have an old Hoseasons brochure with the layout in it. When she was with Sabena she was called Citation 1. Her Broads number is A982. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have tried ebay but they have no Broads brochures at all. I remember that the archives at Norwich library had a collection of Blakes brochures but I'm not sure if they had Hoseasons or even went up to post 1990.

    Kind regards,

    Andrea and Ian
