@1Drab1: Last night was at Acle, outside the Bridge Inn - in fact a rather eventful mooring as about 20 or so minutes after arriving and sat talking to Shiela I heard at the back out our boat an unusually large splash - I got up looked out the rear glass doors on the boat to see nothing then more splashing so opened the doors walked out and see a mans head just above water between our stern and that of the boat (he had slipped off).  No shouting for hep etc, then (I presume) his mother came out a lady in her sixites I would guess, and was in total shock - by now I was off the boat and on theirs grabbing his right arm as he tried to scramble on while she took hold of his left arm.  It took all our strength to hoist him back on the boat as he had fallen in with a heavy jacket.

It all happened within about a minute and instinct took over.  Thank goodness he was sheltered between the boats and there was no current running at the time but thankfully all ended well and we had a drink and chat in the pub after.

@Broads01: I have plans to hire several more times - perhaps not this year, but if nothing else because I am curious about some boats I have yet to hire and also rather like the whole process of hiring still so, I really had not given it much thought and I am pretty sure if I had a boat that was soley mine I would still want the odd hire boat.

Good work Rob look forward to watching your adventures take care pal I'm sure our paths will cross at some point and we'll have a few pints

Mark that is because that was a 'cheat' time lapse - just footage speeded up lots so was a bit dizzy!

A real time lapse is individual photos combined to make video footage, and I was thinking about capturing the sun rise, some beautiful mist rising over the marshes, fluffy clouds passing over the wide open Norfolk sky.  Now the only question is can i get up early enough!

Where did you moor last night robin

  3. We moored at Womack island on Saturday night usually one of our favourite moorings but were surprised to find 5 or 6 piles of dog mess don't know why people can't clean up after them the kids normally love to play on the island but couldn't on this occasion.

Up the Ant in the wind ... let us know how you get on. I've always found that to be a challenge when turning in off the Bure in a strong breeze. Hope you don't have to hold at Ludham Bridge.

Looking on the webcam at Wroxham there doesn't seem to be any boats on the move or any dayboats out and about yet.

We have ditched the boat at womack island it's well sheltered just put a film on for the kids while we have a good clean up we'll be heading off about 2oclock

    Where were you moored?

If on the open river, then yes, I would imagine  it would not be very pleasant at all.

    cheersIain

Well there was the odd bump in the night but we survived :-)

you can really hear the wind in the trees in the distance but moorings are well protected by the bank from a southerly wind.

    Plenty of rain though.

We didn't  fare so well at acle bridge did think it would be so bad as it was

Well peeps, it was booked last May and it has come around at last. We will be flying into Gatwick via Istanbul next Saturday morning (we hope) and driving up to Stalham to pick up Commodore 1 from Richos.

First night is booked in the Bridge at Acle and then we'll have a lazy morning on Sunday, before going down through Yarmouth and across Breydon. Surlingham Ferry Inn is booked for Sunday night and I'm looking forward to that, 'cause haven't been in there for years.

Monday morning will see us going into Norwich and mooring at the Yacht Station for a few hours, so we can go and do our shopping. Monday afternoon will be a run down to Rockland Staithe and dinner will be in the New Inn.

Tuesday will probably be lunch in Loddon, then I fancy a run down the Waveney to overnight at Oulton Broad.

Wednesday is a ''don't know yet'' day, but I fancy over nighting at Yarmouth, so I can go to Harry Ramsden's for fish and chips and a pint.

Thursday will be back up north to Womak to pick up my NBN clothes order from the shop and lunch in the pup at Ludham.

    Friday - don't know.

If anyone is around these areas at those times, please give us a shout. It would be great to say hello.

    Where is the NBN shop

I like the presumption “many people who moor here make a small contribution...” as if some survey has been done to discover this is so.

I had written a long reply to this, but bullocks – this will sum it up: The Broads  Authority is not a Charity!

    Bullocks? Lol

Yes I agree with the rascal though

Sorry about the above heading, I can't seem to get rid of it!

Mowjo - Drab is asking about overnight moorings and places to see as he is hiring. Mind you, after the enthusiastic responses to his enquiry, he might be tempted to buy his own boat one day!

Yes I've been looking at boats we are going to hire this year but you never know what next year will bring
