With a danfoss compressor fridge you can also get a modified controller which uses a different thermostat and changes the behaviour depending on voltage available,  I have it and it works well but took total fridge cost to nearly £700! In use you crank it up full and when the volts are up at charging level (shore power or engine running) it drops the contents down to 1 degree so not quite frozen and uses the contents as cold storage,  when volts drop it will let it get to 7 degrees and run compressor at lower speeds to conserve power.

Thanks smoggy that’s interesting do you have anymore information on the modifications required and is it easy to fit yourself and did you buy it from the same place you bought the fridge?

  2. Thanks for all the comments I have had a measure up and a have useable space of 415w x 600d x 560t

I have two 130 ah batteries one startup and one leisure and and the fridges I’m looking at are Running at 40w and some 270w per 24hrs it’s all a bit of a mystery to me

  3. I would like to buy a small fridge for my boat and having never had one before I would like some advice or recommendations. We only spend a few days at a time onboard

I have 12 volts supply with 240v shore power when it’s available but only have limited space

  4. I have been following your journey, I have to get the old cutlass bearing pressed out so I can measure up for a replacement, It wasn’t too badly worn but was leaking where it was fixed to the keel as the screw weren’t tight and one head had come away due to electrolysis

  5. We started on Hilda’s 2023 maintenance a couple of weeks ago at Robins yard.

As I am quickly discovering nothing with boats is easy or straightforward and always full of unwelcome surprises.

our first task was to sorting a a previous repair where someone for what ever reason decided to have a number of joints directly next to each other resulting in four joints next to each other and as always we discovered a few others the also needed attention so Robin setting about stripping back everything that needed to be replaced.

I meanwhile under  the patient guidance Of Robin set about removing what was left of the steel screws that were used to fix the chine boards, it was a laborious task but eventually I have completed that and next week we will replace them with new stainless screws.

Next on my list was to remove the prop and cutlass bearing and as normal one of the screws securing the bearing was broken and I had to drill it out as I’m a bit of a novice Dave was on hand to give some advice

still lots to do including repairs to the transom moving the exhaust, repainting the hull the list is endless 🤦‍♂️but Robin is doing a great job so we are moving in the right direction.

  6. I have found someone who will cast them in brass and chrome and polish them, he’s a real craftsman it’s the same process that’was carried out when they were made 70 years ago.

He could re-chrome yours ate the same time as he makes ours if your interested.

For anyone interested in having some made  the cost is £90 plus vat you can PM

We are due to travel to Beccles tomorrow as Dave (JanetAnne) has asked us to take Tabitha Rose from her home mooring in Beccles up to Oulton Broad on Thursday to meet up with the other woodies that are attending the wooden boat show.

I see that slack at GY is predicted for just before 5am on Thursday. Does that mean that the fleet travelling down from the North will arrive at Oulton super early or are they intending to travel down to Oulton on Wednesday evening? Given I haven't helmed Tabitha before, and unfamiliar with how she handles, I'm slightly nervous of trying to do a first stern mooring on her in Oulton YS with an audience of very experienced Broadsmen Broadspersons. An early start from Beccles might be in order.

Alternatively, I'll just have to swallow my pride if I mess up.

Very much looking forward to meeting fellow forumites for the first time!

  8. That’s great news it’s so important to keep this historical database alive and im sure you will do a great job and there will be plenty of support for you if required

  9. I think there are always places where kids and family’s swim and these are generally well known spots so I see no problem there my concern is when you come across the random open water swimmer miles from anywhere and not wearing the appropriate high viz, a moment’s lack of concentration could end up in a nasty accident and nobody wants that

  10. I am making progress and have an original broom badge and have found someone to cast it in brass just get to find someone to chrome them

obviously the more I get made the cost is reduced so any who’s interested in getting a pair drop me a line and we can get them ordered

  11. I was sitting on the moorings enjoying the weather on the Waveney and saw a number of swimmers, some we’re wearing high viz and had coloured tow floats so could be spotted easily but others were wearing black swimming hats and no high viz so were not easily visible especially in the evening when most of the swimming takes place.

one boat got a bit close for comfort.

is there any rules for open water swimmers
