  1. Some very interesting replys. However, should this actually be a boat safety matter anyway. Bilge strainers have nothing to do with gas, fuel or electric. Surely this is an environmental matter, nothing to do with the safety of the vessel being either on the mooring or out on the river!

  2. I have a Vetus bilge water strainer fitted to my vessel. I am informed by a BSS inspector that the Broads Authority no longer allow these filters and as such can cause a vessel to fail a BSS inspection.

Brian Wards in Brundall say that their cheapest BA approved strainer is a Wavestream unit costing about £140 plus the fittings costing another £10. Have other boaters had problems with their boats passing the BSS due to having unapproved bilge strainers?

  3. I am very concerned following Smoggys comment about Calor fazing out the 3.9 Calor bottles. I have a 27' yacht and gas locker can only accommodate this size bottle. Have you any idea when they due to stop supply? Also, any ideas what my options might be please?

  4. I very much doubt we shall ever see the reopening of the Burney Arms. The building is now in a very poor state of repair, and a great amount of money would be required to restore it. Especially given the difficulty of access!

I remember a number of years ago that CAMRA tried to buy it at an asking price of £250,000 by selling stakeholder shares at £500 a pop! Unfortunately, as my memory serves me, they were only able to raise £2,500!

  5. Yes dogs are allowed in the White Heron. As Mouldy says there are visitors mooring available. Brooms have cleared all the boats from the mooring next to the road, thus providing approx 20 berths for visitors. However, not sure about overnight stays!
