yes you can and if the engine has a electric solenoid you can yet the engine to shut down as soon as the sensor has no water. 

calll me ole fashoined but yer beat seeing what yer pumping old school some tines is best ans simples 

 

experince will tell me what is a good flow or not steam and colour of the ole smukk out ot the ole exhuast too

 

but i,m and fart now no new fangle stuff her yer know .........
