  1. Hubby is a bit better this morning. I have cleaned and dressed his foot and told him to keep it covered! No more climbing on the deck to take wind shields down while we are moving!

The Bernie arms closed down completely yesterday . They were just selling drinks off for donations!

Very sad, my first time there and it looked like a lovely place'

  2. The wind picked up suddenly and he asked me to take the wheel so he could put the wind shield up. The gust caught him and he came crashing into the boat, cutting under his foot quiet badly!

He's bled quite a bit bit is ok now- I've cleaned it and padded it out with tissues . We are at the berney inn now, which is closing today. Going to try and get to Reedham to find a chemist or shop for dettol

  3. We're using the tide table given to us from Richardson's . We're not sure what slack water means. In the table it says low tide, high tide and slack water. We just want to be able to get under the bridges so has it got to be exactly at 3.59 as in the table or will an hour before be ok?

We did it last year but can't remember what time frame we have before and after low tide to get through.

  4. Thanks all! We are in Stalham now, done a bit of shopping and hopefully boarding in and hour or so. We might mosey on down south tomorrow. Picking up Crown Gem which will be interesting as it's a lot smaller than Southern Horizon.

So relaxing and beautiful on the Broads, we even had a ice cream from the boat near horning yesterday

  5. Everywhere has been so busy ! We managed to find a space in Wroxham today but apart from mooring in the middle of nowhere, there is nowhere to park in the bigger areas eg Horning . Enjoyed Potter Heigham but tried to moor up at Neatishead, but no luck!

We are near Acle at the moment but out in the sticks! Dropping Southern a Horizon off in the morning and picking up Crown Gem at Stalham. We will investigate the Southern broads then!

  6. Good news June. I thought you might end up with Richardsons in the end! You have two contrasting boat styles there each with their own pros and cons. I've hired Crown Gem and it was great except didn't like it in the rain when the cockpit felt cramped and enclosed. It would be good to hear how you get on.

    I will let you know!

Been looking at the specs of both boats, Southern Horizon being 10 ft longer and 3 feet wider than Crown Gem, should be interesting!

  7. Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm afraid camping is out for many reasons. One being we've not camped for about 30 years,Mr. Choco has a medical problem, so a tent would not be suitable. The mini breaks look great, but rather expensive for us and one big problem with those for me is they are full of KIDS!

Nothing against them but I work in high school and like to escape from them on my holidays and need the peace and quiet.

We are having a look again online tonight, Waterways of Wroxham might have a boat for us!

    Thanks

  8. Hopefully Clive Richardson reads this post and can help you out ;) he's a member and sponsor of the forum :)  Although as I say that's peak season and I guess demand will far outweight supply but don't ask don't find out ;)

I can but try! Fingers crossed, we hired from Richardsons last year via Hoseasons but they told us to book direct with them this time.

We booked an extra couple of days with them last year, when we got there and their service was excellent! So looking forward to our break.

  9. If Mr Richardsons can't do you a NBN discount ;) then I suggest you try the independents;

    Marthams (proper woodern boats!).. http://www.marthamboats.com

    Maffetts http://www.maffett-cruisers.com,

    Pacific http://www.pacificcruisers.co.uk

    Freedom boats  http://www.freedomboatingholidays.co.uk

Obviously though this is peak season though so places maybe booked out.. We used to camp (in a tent) for an extra weekend although hiring although even camping is expensive these days!

    Good luck :)

Didn't know about the NBN discount! How does that work then? I will have alook at the sites you put on.

    Thanks

  10. Hi,

We've booked for 22nd August for a week at Richardsons. Now decided we would like a few days longer eg to go on the Monday(18th) instead of the Friday. Richardsons can't offer us the same boat for that period and the prices have rocketed since we booked it. For an extra 4 days they want over twice as much as what we paid!

Are there any other boat yards cheaper where we might be able to hire from the Monday to Friday? We've looked at Brinks and Woods, but no luck!

    Thanks

  11. Well we are now at Wroxham, stocked up on milk, bacon, bread etc at the famous "Roy's" We stopped at The Ferry Inn at Stokesby for a drink and a few sun rays.

Wasps, wasps, wasps everywhere though ! How can we deter them? One committed suicide in my lager!

The weather has been beautiful today, we would have moored up at Horning but there was no where to park.

Where should we go tomorrow? I was thinking Walsham, what do you think? We want to stop North as we go back to Stalham Saturday evening.

  12. Well we are at Oulton Broad tonight. We've been to Brundall, Reedham and Norwich. We are heading north through Yarmouth tomorrow morning. Weather is gorgeous and hubby is so funny trying to moor up! We tried at St Olaves, doing a 25 point turn but he gave up, embarrassed as everyone was watching us. We moved onto a little place called Somerlayton, which was beautiful and had lunch in a lovely beer garden.

  13. We arrived half an hour ago after a 5 hour journey, the road works at Elvedon holding us up.

We are currently sitting waiting for our boat as we've managed to get an extra couple of days in. We're now getting Amber Gem which is a 4 berth, so plenty of room to spread out.

Can't wait to get going, so excited.
