  1. I find carveries the very worst of pub food.  The sight of people piling food on their (and worst of all their children's) plates  destroys my appetite, and the amount of waste is appalling.

We had a lovely meal at a Harvester in Swindon during Regatta week, and whilst not what I would call 'cheap' - £90 for 2x sea bass and prawns with chilli, a cheeseburger, 2 desserts, a bottle of wine, 1 liqueur, 2 coffees  and unlimited soft drink, I thought it was reasonable.  There was a very well stocked salad bar and my only criticism was that the majority of dishes on the menu had some sort of chilli seasoning, although ours were very mild.

Ok I will try again: the individual bookings were honoured. The Yacht Station were completely helpful, the members were gracious.

The requirement for risk assessments etc that made it in that sense official were not required once we were not turning up with tentage and supporting events.

I fail to appreciate the inflation of this issue to a major problem, disappointing, yes, Earth shattering, no.

Did we take the decision lightly? No. Are we still giving the matter thought? Yes.

Really? - and still no empathy for those whose plans have been overturned?

  3. Yes, but how does this affect the present case? The booking was made, presumably members expressed their intention of attending,  and now it is withdrawn from the calendar at a moment's notice.  I'm sure Beccles YS couldn't give a d...n whether or not the NBN  are there in an OFFICIAL capacity.  They had a booking, now it's withdrawn. Those responsible have sullied the name of this forum throughout Broadland.

  4. I have every sympathy for that person - and indeed would hate my post to be construed as criticism of anyone.  However, I would like to know what constitutes an 'official' event, and why there are not measures in place to guard against such eventualities.  If you're going to authorise any event as official, then surely it is incumbent upon you to make sure it takes place.

  5. Paul, your post, together with the Swallows and Amazons thread has a weird relevance, as I am at the moment reading 'Peter Duck', where the children along with Captain Flint sail to the Caribbean and they use the exact method you describe when mooring.

We all know what a cess pit it is at the best of times.    Why have we (NBN) a need for it in the first place.   Like many others I would not touch it with a barge pole.

Actually 'we all' don't.  I started using Facebook as a platform to play adventure games when I was more or less confined to the house owing to my having to care for a relative with a terminal illness and I have 'met' the most wonderful people from across the world.  There are people on every group and forum on the internet (including this one) whose opinions I value and those I don't; whether or not I agree with them is irrelevant.  To blame the platform for the behaviour of small minority of users is akin to blaming a religion with millions of followers for the actions of a comparatively miniscule number of terrorists.

  7. Some parts of non-stick pans can be recycled, but not the plastic on the handles.  I have a set of heavy stainless steel pans (including a frying pan) with copper bottoms which my grandmother paid around £50 for in the 1960s and which are as good as new.  If a frying pan is used correctly (i.e. heated up before adding a tiny amount of oil) it shouldn't be a problem to clean.

. Medium and small saucepan with lids and a large fry pan (non-stick) and since there so cheap (£5.00 each) it can just be seen as a disposable item the moment it begins to wear -

And more stuff for landfill?  Buy the best you can afford and they will last more than a lifetime

  9. Thanks, Polly.  Our sails are + - 15 years old and eminently serviceable,  but the stitching is showing its age (not a problem, I can repair that) but the fabric is showing signs of UV damage. My idea is to treat ourselves to a new set as a Christmas present whilst using the old ones for spares.

No -  your so-called jokes aren't funny. If you want to have a private conversation, go ahead and find another platform to indulge in your fantasies,.  I have been a member of this forum for a lot longer than you

    Hey, hey

If there is someone who promotes the equality between men and the weaker sex more than I, I will buy him a pint.

Luckily, you have given enough clues so we can contact your employers.
