  1. thanks for that I understood it to be made by Ernest Collins for Woods , that clears that bit, I see now that the way they are listed it makes sense now. On my certificate it says she was built in 1979 would that be right and would it been around the time that Collins joined Powles. as the Powles cruisers seem similar. regards Andy
  2. Hi I have a cruiser that is astral light 3 L993 however on the drawers and many more panels within the boat is astral emblem marked on them. I am a little confused to how they became to be named like that, as I am confused again with which area to use, this one , the Aquafibre one , I already have used the Bounty one as they are well known to have a similar drive to mine. Maybe some nice Gent or Lady will take me out of this confused state. Andy
  3. these 2 websites run by the same engineer are used a lot by the marine trade, and have been used by myself over many years. They are completely free run by a marine engineer as a way of keeping boating costs down. one site is all the marine engines and the other site is marine equipment sounders gps and the like so download and enjoy. The only thing he he like is that you done sell them on as he has found many copying and selling them on ebay. best regards Andy www.equipment.ath.cx www.motoren.ath.cx you may have to copy and paste them into your browse as the links have not taken
  4. hi Neilb yes mine is fitted to a 2.5 bmc and funny enough the unnoficial name of my boat is astral emblem that became astral light 3 in the reg documents and was commissioned/ built in 1979 and she go's very well 1200revs 7 knots regards andy. back in a few days

  6. Hi Ferryman, it looks to me as if it is the old lock at Barton on Irwell it comes out just east underneath the bridgewater canal . Looking a bit more I noticed the lock is still there and in a conservation area , so hopefully it will be saved. andya

  8. Hi I am still looking for the oil filter number for my hydraulic drive I know it is a 3/4" spin on type but there are no marks on it. I have contacted arp as it is their name on the red tank, who don't seem to want to reply to me. I think the one that is on is probably a cheaper filter used on the broads with no numbers on, as it was last changed before 2005 on the broads. So if anyone can help ? it looks like a piston type system put in in 1979. In the meantime I have been in drydock for a couple of weeks and antifouled my boat and painted it as well as fitting a new fender strake and lower rubbing strake. Just to fit new front windows and I will be ready for a good run in September. So could do to get filter and new oil in before then. regards Andy
  9. Thanks Alan and Iain for your warm welcome, you will notice that Andy Banner has given me most of the advice i need to go ahead with the oil change of my drive. nice to know we can contact someone even though i am in a different cruising area. best regards Andy
  10. Thanks for that Andy I thought there would be no easy way to drain the system , the lucky bit in mine although the pipes are long, they are easily dismantled so I will only have to drain the pump and motor then and refill after reassembly. The oil looks ok in the tank but the boat has been stood since it left the broads for Yorkshire in 2005 but I have been running it since march and it seems fine it reaches a speed of 7 knots at 1800 revs on slack water , I would imagine it will reach 10to 12 on full throttle. The oil in the tank looks crisp and new with no discolouration at all , but I think for my own peace of mind i would like to change it along with a full engine service and fuel filter alterations i have to do. Many thanks for your reply it is what i wanted to hear. best regards andy
  11. for that folks, I am a bit of a long ride away from the broads in Beverley east Yorkshire But will see if I can contact mafletts. Not to bothered about my engine as I grew up with the old bmcs and have rebuilt many of them before I retired from the motor trade. again many thanks for the swift response and recomendations
  12. Hi I have a broads boat with a hydraulic drive in it I think its the old Volvo system , coupled to a 2.5 bmc I can only see part of the oil filter number on it which is 235 or 532 as I was looking upside down through a mirror. I could not see any letters. I want to change the hydraulic oil this winter as it has not been done for over 7 years so I need to know what filter it needs and some advice about draining the system, and I thought some bounty owners may give me the help or indeed point me toward a manual. It looks the same drive as in a lot of bounty's red power pack and the motor looks like some in the bounty's pictures. I don't want to start the service before buying all the parts I need for a full service of the engine and drive unit , as the boat is in use 3 or 4 days a week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. regards andya
