  1. Thank you Herbert Woods your actions are much appreciated.

Obviously you cannot control what your hirers do after they have taken the boat and there will always be idiots hiring from all the boatyards.

Thankfully the vast majority of hirers are responsible people.

  2. Rinceweed:

I think you are right to be paranoid about using the public wi fi, especially if Microsoft as in my case turned off my virus scan.

I have done a bit of research and apparently Microsoft Security Essentials has been upgraded. I have checked my updates and all the updated have failed.

My reinstallation appears to be the old programme. I suppose when Microsoft gets its act together they will send me a proper upgrade. I am not holding my breath!

    Watch this space.

  3. Losing your virus scan whilst being connected to a public network is rather dangerous.

There was no harm done fortunately (I think). I do not do banking on my computer so nothing could be stolen. I have done a full scan on my Malwarebytes anti malware programme and a full scan on my reinstalled virus scan and found nothing.

You live and learn so in future I will avoid downloading Microsoft's updates on public networks.

  4. Thanks for the reply Siddy.

Yep, I came to the same conclusion as you and have just uninstalled and reinstalled and updated my Microsoft Security Essentials.

I originally thought it was the Cloud wi fi c*****g it up but it now appears that it is Microsoft. GRRRRRRR!

Anyway readers, that's the way to do it.

  5. Hi.

I have just downloaded the latest Windows 7 updates.

It has totally c****d up my Microsoft Security Essentials virus scan in respect of the fact that it has turned it off and I cannot turn it back on.

Has anybody had the same problem. I was at the download using Wetherspoons wi fi.

  6. Juli:

You may see a boat patrolling the Broads crewed by people in white coats.

They are looking for this lot!  :naughty:

    Juli.................................Juli...........................Juli................... Are you still there?

  7. I really do wish well on the outcome and they do get their decking approved.

I was temporarily disabled by a motorcycle accident in my younger days and was on crutches for three months. I was fitter then but a good firm surface was always better to walk on. The lady's safety should come first in my opinion and why should she be denied safe passage to the boat?

With regards to what the decking looks like, it is much better to look at than some of the properties at Potter, if anything, due to the state of them, some of them devalue the surrounding properties.

  8. A really easy breakfast is Bonzo's bacon, tomato and mushroom slosh up.

I have set the ingredients as per person so multiply up if needed.

Two slices of back bacon cut into 1 cm squares.

    Two large chestnut mushrooms, chopped.

    One large tomato, chopped.

Fry the bacon until caramelised, adding the  mushrooms about half way through.

Stir in the chopped tomato and cook down until most of the liquid has either been absorbed by the mushrooms or evaporated. Frankly, the result is a sticky mess but quite delicious.

I always add a good shot of black pepper but leave it out if you don't like pepper.

Serve between thick slices of good quality bread or even better, on thick hot buttered toast and for good measure, put a nice fried free range egg on top.

    Enjoy!

  9. Personally I like a bit of a wind on Breydon. Despite my old tub has a flat bottom and bangs on every wave, even showing daylight underneath so I have been told. It makes a break from the calm waters on the rest of the Broads.

In saying that I can remember a few years ago bashing across Hickling Broad late one evening in half light heading for an excellent meal and a few pints in The Pleasure Boat. Hickling Broad can be just as lively as Breydon Water.

  10. Hopefully boatyards will point out to their hirers in future that there are people on the Broads who are fed up with behaviour such as this and they do have cameras and they will publish the video for all to see including the Broads Beat and Broads Authority.

  11. The ability to fish enclosed waters and canals in the closed season makes a mockery of the whole closed season fiasco.

Lets just abolish the closed season completely. Its an out dated ridiculous law as fish rarely breed between March and June. They breed much later in the year when the water is warmer.

Perhaps this could be the subject of one of those petitions to Parliament.

  12. I have lost count of the number of "hit and runs" perpetrated on my boat some of which have cracked the gellcoat. I do try to moor in places to reduce the chances of being hit but it still happens.

I think a lot of the problem is that boats do not steer like cars. The blunt end does not follow the sharp end when turning. The blunt end goes in the opposite direction as the boat pivots somewhere amidships.

What compounds the problem is sometimes the helmsman sometimes to make the boat steer like a car by grabbing a big handful of throttle and lord help anything fragile in the way of the swinging rear end.

Proper use of the current and wind, a little thought as to what these forces do to the boat and how they can be used to advantage and the practise of coming off a mooring in reverse can work wonders.

Please, if you don't get it right, have the common decency to stop and do the proper thing as one would do on the road.

    Thank you.

  13. Yes, I will second that.

It is quite amazing to see doting dog owners happily watch their furry friends sniff around mooring posts to which boats have tied up to and then pee all over the mooring ropes.

Even worse is that some dog owners think that if they are out in the countryside that their furry friends can s***t anywhere and they do not have to clear it up. I have lost count of the times I have trod in this disgusting mess and trod it all over my boat.

  14. Ahaa!  MM. This is where your pressure cooker comes in handy. I think this sort of steamed pudding should take around twenty to thirty minutes in one of these.

Adjusted carefully it will only give a wisp of steam and save a heck of a lot of gas.

  15. This ploy is not a new thing.

My ex employers (and good riddance to them) used this. Every member of staff was invited to contribute to charity through their pay. When my employers saw what staff had spare from their pay guess what?.................They re arranged the staff grade system which in effect reduced our pay.

Beware of putting money in these boxes. BA get quite enough money from us toll payers. They just need to spend it on the navigation.

  16. Hi Ray.

    Welcome to the website.

" No heating, ice packs to keep food cool, basic toilets and no single leaver control"

Now that was a proper boat!

Mine has no 'fridge no bog and still has two leaver control.
