It is a situation that could and should have been acknowledged and allowed for years ago, indeed when details and plans for the Broads Flood Alleviation were drawn up. Funds could also have been ring fenced for the predictable situation that we now find ourselves.

The EA had obviously planned ahead for the reshaping of the banks as they quickly erected platforms for their stakeholders ( anglers ) to gain easy access to the water!

  2. Sorry, cannot post a link but found this on the BA website.

Broads Parish Forum / The next Parish Forum event is scheduled for Wednesday 18 March 2020, 6.30pm-8.30pm, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road, Norwich NR1 1RY.

It appears only to be for Chair or Parish clerks but it may be worthwhile finding out if your Parish is going to attend!

  3. A very interesting discussion but could anyone please clear up one point. The East Anglian Waterways Website http://www.eawa.co.uk/walsham-2.html clearly states

"The 1812 Act contains a special provision preventing the original canal company from charging any tolls or dues "For any Boat, Barge , or Vessel which shall be navigated or pass upon any part of the river Ant which at the Time of passing this Act is navigable to Dilham:"

I guess someone could argue that there is a risk of oil pollution as the bridge mechanism is lubricated with oil/grease and the diesel loco's could drip oil onto the track that would be washed into the river.

So what happens when it rains?

  5. So are you in favour  of banning boats?  How would I be interfering with birds and wildlife whilst sitting quietly fishing off the back of my boat?
