  1. I have only been a member for a month since I bought our first boat. I have found lots of useful information on the forums and have had really useful answers to my questions so I can only agree that the members of the NBN are a nice group of people.

  2. I am fairly new to outboard so I went onto the internet when I got my boat with the same outboard.
If you search " outboard trim setting" there are lots of articles on whats the best way to get it right.

  5. I can't see a real issue with a meter after all it's better than a sign saying NO MOORING.
The free 24hr BA moorings are after all said and done are not really free we just all pay up front with the annual toll.
The choice is ours whether we use any mooring or not.

  6. You can get an omni directional aerial that picks up a signal from any direction if you want to fit and forget.
The pole is usually to get a good line to the signal over obstructions.
I use a moonraker DTV1000 which is a directional aerial with a built in signal booster without a pole and get a good signal.
The uk aerial alignment app is really useful and simple to use

  7. Came home from the boat Sunday after a week away .Boiler  won't work,  We have  a  great plumber, who came Monday, ! It's the circuit board apparently needs replacing and no longer available.  He can install a new boiler on Thursday, Oh well, not to worry we have an immersion for hot water and a gas fire, installed as a back-up should the boiler fail, in the lounge so should be o.k. for a few days. gas fire does the job perfectly Sunday and Monday, broke down today needs a new battery. Impossible to get a replacement except on Amazon as it's a specialised battery. Well it would be wouldn't it? Oh the joys of modern living!

  8. Hi All,
I know this is an old thread but I've been away.
It may have been said already, covering your boat is really only needed if you have a leak which you can't fix or timber bits which you want to preserve.  Covering well though can cause big problems with keeping condensation inside the boat. Boats do need to breath, leave windows open to allow it breath.
A problem with tarpaulines also is that they do rub really badly and can wear through gel coat in a couple of months, they also break down pretty quickly so it's just not worth the expense.
These's negatives can be removed if you use a bespoke cover, most manufacturers sew in air vents to allow and force airflow where required, there is also special materials designed for the purpose, there's one even which has a nice soft backing which removes rubbing issues.   Cover's aren't cheap but they are well worth the investment.
If you did want a quote drop me an email direct: alan@trimnet.co.uk and I'll assist.
Don't forget to you can buy materials direct from our online store: trimnet.co.uk/shop use NBN for a 10% discount.  (not all products are on there but more are added daily).

Thanks for the information Alan. I will get in touch when I have finally
    decided what to do.

  9. We had one come in to a cottage at Sutton Staithe about 4 weeks ago. Wife was going spare. After about 5 minutes it went back out of the skylight.
It was of course my fault for opening the window.

  10. I had an interesting conversation re. Covers recently. We have a Jeckells £1000 winter cover, but it only reaches the toe rail. We were therefore advised on the best weight of tarp to cover Brilliant ashore, providing better protection than the cover we inherited with the boat. If she were afloat it would be a different equation of course, but we always take her out.
So I guess my thinking would be to try a good tarp this winter, then decide on the basis of that experience.

Thanks for the advice sounds like I need to get some measurements and make a tarp that fits something like for this year.

  11. Just going boat hunting is the greatest fun. I find it's a bit like buying a house, the minute you get on board THE one you know!

  12. Hi all, being new to owning a boat I was wondering what are the pros and cons of buying a winter cover. Looking around I see some boats fully covered when not in use but most are not.

2nd part of the question is where can you buy them if needed.
