  1. I phoned them up a few weeks ago. They stopped doing fuel and pump outs, but still doing water. We moored on at South Walsham last night. We went past this  morning but didn't  attempt to get water, they were shut and not sure  if water turned on.

    Thank you for that
  2. Remember reading somewhere on one of the Facebook Broads forums that you can no longer get water at the little boatyard at South Walsham Broad. Not sure in this was temporary while we were all in lockdown a while ago or if this is permanent? Can anyone confirm?

  3. I think this boat has come up in a previous thread but at the time there weren't interior photos available. Looking on Hoseasons website now I'm convinced this boat is very odd indeed. At first glance it's a conventional sedan but look closer and it's anything but. The aft deck is ridiculously narrow and with no railing doesn't look at all safe. And why would you put the galley just inside the stern doors with the sofa below amidships and not the other way around?

Now that’s a very weird design. Completely agree.

  4. Sounds a great place to visit (Rosy Lee’s). Will pay them a visit or if too lazy ask for a breakfast delivery. Well be on the Broads 2 weeks today. Thanks for the recommendation

As most will be aware we sadly lost our last Golden Retriever Macie dog back in December - It was her time due.

Of course it was never in question about getting a fourth GR - Field / Gun stock naturally.

Our next addition has to tick a few boxes, nowadays primarily the dog MUST be good with grandchildren - G.R = Tick,  must be capable of taking to the the gun - G.R = Tick,  must be able to retrieve better than I can shoot (That's asking a lot I know!) - G.R = Tick,  must be sociable with strangers, other dogs and be keen to learn - G.R = Tick,  must be a decent swimmer - G.R = Tick,  Must be a crew member onboard 'B.A' - G.R = Tick

We had to wait until I got MrsG back from Jockland proper in January, then wait again until after we had spent another ten days or so in March back up in Jockland sorting out her late Mums house and affairs etc.

Then came that awful CV thing that we are still grappling with and the consequential lock down.  So we had to wait again.

After a full seven weeks or earning precisely nowt I gratefully  went back to work third week of May-ish.  No brass in the coffers so we had to wait again.

We have actively been searching and on the hunt over the past couple of months, my lad taking the lead this time, after a few false promises, we could now be getting close.  There is a litter due tomorrow down south.  We are potential owners of one of the litter once we have cleared the vetting procedure which I am confident we will do so.  Therefore if all goes well, we should have a new crew member come September

HAVE YOU SEEN THE CURRENT PRICES THOUGH? :default_ohmy:

Last year you could buy a family pet G.R puppy  (Non gun dog stock) for about £600 - £800.

Field stock, the acceptable or average normal price was around the £1200 mark, which is what I was expecting to pay

Since Lockdown though the prices are sky rocketing.  I have agreed potentially to pay £2k, yes that's right TWO THOUSAND.  Wow, I can't get my breath, I have been researching and this is the new current acceptable price for a field stock G.R

    All the brass is

    'Going To The Dogs'

    Griff

Sorry to hear that you have lost Macie Griff - So sad when it happens but it's great that you are looking to get another dog. Breeders are good at cashing in, especially at the moment... Our last dog was a puppy and previous to that we had a rescue dog (both loopy Boxers).

When the time comes we would certainly consider a rescue dog again, they deserve a chance to have a great life and we have been lucky that ours gave us years of joy until she unfortunately became very ill and we had to say goodbye.I think our next dog will be a rescue but hopefully we have a few more years with our current totally stupid (but cunningly clever) dog Jasper.

  7. Just wanted to say thank you to the NBN Admim/s.

Received my NBN flag a couple of days ago very quickly after ordering it. Great service and its nice to support the site by giving something back.

Have picked up a clamp on flag pole from a local Force 4 chandlery  to proudly display it on one of Bridgecrafts Brooklyn Bridge which we will be on from the 19th Sept for 2 weeks.

Counting day the days now and looking forward to getting our yearly Broads fix. Planning on a week down South then back to the North, and this year have planned on visiting places that we haven't been to before.

  8. Just had some good news....

After spending 5 weeks trying to get hold of Hoseasons to confirm our booking for the end of September we have finally had a call to confirm that our booking is confirmed and all is ok. Slightly worried prior to this as our Hoseasons booking disappeared from their site and was replaced with 'Please Call Us to discuss your booking'.

I would like to thank Mark from Bridgecraft as well as he has been brilliant in confirming that as far as he is aware all is ok. This will be our 3rd time with Bridgecraft now and they are a fantastic boatyard. Nothing is too much trouble and they have such a caring, friendly approach when help is needed.

Last year we hired Forth Bridge One from Bridgecraft. We found this a great duel helm boat and great for seeing over the reeds when travelling around the Southern Broads (especially from the upper helm).

We unfortunately had a problem with the boat but after a call to the boatyard Dan came out within 40 minutes of us making a call and although was unable to fix the issue in situ he said they would put us in another boat. Mark then came out with a fantastic replacement, the Brooklyn Bridge..... WOW what a boat. We were soon settled on her and completed the rest of our holiday. The main point here I am making is  that the customer service that we received was second to none and they quickly got us back up and running in the replacement boat. We enjoyed the Brooklyn so much that we hired it for this year.

So basically thank you to Bridgecraft of Acle for such an amazing service. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone wanting a reasonably priced boat which are very well maintained and spotlessly clean. Everyone at the boatyard are really helpful and friendly. I think it certainly pays to support the smaller Broads boatyards, that's not saying that the other boatyards aren't as good but we feel that Bridgecraft went the extra mile for us.

We look forward to meeting everyone at Bridgecraft again in 4 weeks and exploring the broads once again.

  9. Fourth Bridge 2, I would assume 1 is similar, has the engine in a compartment alongside the galley, in the centre of the boat and under the outside helm area. There is a couple of doors in the galley that allow access to the engine for reed filter checks etc. From memory is was very quiet from the outside apart from the occasional splash and burble from the exhaust which was along the port side just below the outside helm position.
Cannot really remember what the noise was like inside as we always cruised it from outside even in a slight downpour. We just put rain coats on and got on with it. One downside of the centre cockpit sliding roof boats is that you have to put the roof up to stop furnishings from getting wet and then it can feel warm and claustrophobic.
I assume Fourth Bridge 1 and 2 are similar although Fourth Bridge 2 joined Bridgecraft later as it came from the neighbouring yard Anchor craft when they retired from hiring boats.

Thanks for that, I was just curious. We have had Conway bridge before which was nice because it has a sliding roof. This time we quite fancy the option of the outside helm. I guess if we don’t like it in future we can go back to something like the Conway. We were certainly impressed with Bridgecraft the last time we used them so happy that we have chosen them again and the prices are very reasonable. Also quite like the fact that they are based in Acle which was a nice starting point.

  10. Hi Wigster,
Forth Bridge is an Aquafibre Lowliner 38, and was regarded as THE boat to hire in its day. The inside helm position is very good, but from the outside helm position, you can see all the outside of the boat, so mooring is much easier.  Lightning is a similar style, but is 5ft longer, and that extra length is ahead of the upper helm, so you have to stand up to see the bow, but on Forth Bridge, you WON`T have any problems.

Sorry for the long delay responding to you and thank you for the information. Just out of interest is the engine outside on the back of the boat on the fourth bridge or is it inside the boat? Just wondered how quiet it will be while cruising. Thank you

Hi Everyone - I have just joined this forum and must say it looks great - Well laid out and lots of useful information.
Having hired the Conway Bridge from Bridgecraft a couple of times and a Topliner a few years ago (interesting experience and never to be repeated). The Conway although old was when we hired it a great boat. The Bridgecraft Conway was great but have seen lots of reports saying its now a bit tatty and old.
That was all around 9 years ago and we have decided its time to go back to the Broads having missed it so much. We have been looking to hire the Silver Wisper from Silverline and wondered if anyone here has any experience of this particular boat? We are a couple (Mark and Wendy) and a Boxer dog called Jasper. It looks a nice and a well appointed craft and we are particularly looking for a practical easy to handle boat. We were also looking at the Bridgecraft Forth Bridge as well but again the same reports of it being a little tired now, hence looking at the Silver Wisper.  We are trying to stick to under £1500 for 2 weeks this fits in nicely. - Thank you

So a quick update, we were about to book the Silver whisper during the week via Hoseasons only to discover that Silverline wants £140 to take a dog for two weeks and the booking stipulations then said that it had to be a small terrier size dog, and us having a boxer dog means obviously we didn’t qualify.

Therefore we decided to book up a Bridgecraft Forth Bridge 1 which we have been looking at as one of our options and after seeing some of the comments on here have decided that it’s the right choice. No way am I prepared to pay Silverline £140 to take a dog onto a boat when everyone else on the Broads is charging almost half that.

We pride ourselves on having a well trained well-behaved dog that we do not allow onto furniture or bedding and we always clean the boat before we take it back conscious that other people don’t want to come across dog hairs when they take out a boat. The bridge craft boat works out at around £250 Less plus we get duel helm positions.

  12. Hi, welcome to the friendly forum.
What Topliner did you hire and what was the problem.

Hi. Thank you for your welcome. It was when Topcraft ran the fleet from Oulton Broad. It was a perfectly good boat if that’s what you wanted but it was our first time on the Broads and found it quite impractical as you couldn’t see anything behind you when you were in the front steering it. It had a very weird layout inside as well. I think the thing that attracted us to it was the fact that It had a four poster bed but it turned out to be a boat that we would not hire again.

I remember one night must’ve been around 2 AM and the engine just started up on its own. Bearing in mind the engine was under the bed that is quite a wake up call. It almost put us off the Broads as it was so difficult to moor up especially in the strong winds because the wind would just take it and throw it all over the place. I think Barns have bought the fleet now and are still running them. It almost put us off the Broads as it was so difficult to more up especially in the strong winds because the wind will just take it and throw it all over the place. I think Brinks have brought the fleet now and are still running them.

That was in 2007 and then in 2009 we looked up on the Bridgecraft Conway for two weeks and absolutely loved it. The boat had a brand new engine which had only done about 200 hours, was very smooth, easy to handle and has a great layout.

    Welcome Wigster

I hired Silver Wisper in 2016 I think it was.

Lovely boat, very well maintained, as all Silverline boats are I believe. Easy to handle, very comfortable which will fit under all bridges except "that one" if I remember correctly.

Heartily recommend it, Silverline and Bridgecraft.

Thank for your reply - Its always great to hear from someone who has experience of a boat - If you have pics of the interior that would be great. - Yes 'that one' bridge is always best avoided....

First off Mark and Wendy a warm :default_welcome: to the NBN from me and The Wench (some call her Inge)

Sorry cant comment about the boat, but I'm sure you will soon get some answers.

    Regards Charlie

Thank you Charlie, I don't know why we have left it so long to return to the broads and thank you for the welcome to the forum.
