If you put a galvanised shackle on that rusty ring and then pass the rope through the shackle then you will avoid rust marks on your otherwise immaculate mooring ropes!

you have far to much time on your hands!! :1_grinning:

  2. Hi All,

Just spent a lovely weekend boating and have found a possible upgrade for our boat, if it could be achieved? i would like to know your views and any recommendations for people or yards capable, if there are any and my idea isn't stupidity!

We have a small access door on the stern of our boat and a small swim deck area, i would be interested on your views regarding extending the swim deck by a about a foot, i have attached a photo, i was thinking teak decking over the top of our original deck, with perhaps stainless brackets underneath as supports, any ideas on whether this is possible and any recommendations for people /yards capable?

If it is poss it would make a much nicer access for elderly parents, if not we can't take them hmmmm maybe not such a good idea after all :1_grinning:.

    Hello Mark,

A tidy looking boat, what is her airdraft?

    Regards

    Alan

    Hi Alan,

we are not entirely sure, sales site said 9'3"  but we have the original build book which says 8'6" both with mast lowered.

    will measure accurately one weekend.

which means cant do wroxham to coltishall, but used to keep our old boat in porter and hayletts yard so have been up down there a lot, and probably cant do ludham bridge, but again spent a few years at wayford so have been all over there.

we spend nearly every weekend in spring, summer, autumn, on our boats as we have a love of the water, and love fishing bird spotting, wildlife and obviously the odd beer or three.

    cheers mark

its 32 feet long 12'3" wide single volvo penta diesel (2.0 litre austin montego engine) or perkins prima.

    we love it!!

  5. hi all,

apparently Reedham rail  bridge is closed on the weekend of 23rd march, i have just bought a boat which i need to move on that weekend, from brundall to acle, the air draft of said boat is 9'3" if the bridge is closed does it mean does it mean i cannot go under? or is it just that they cannot open the bridge, and will i go under it without it opening?

anyone on this site able to give me advice about this, its closed for signalling works allegedly, and any information would be very useful.

    thanks

    mark.

I think Ranworth is now around £60 per foot, the only two I can think of that might suit are Acle or Thurne mouth.

    Fred

thanks fred, i have emailed Acle this evening i will keep you all informed.

    cheers.

There is a 30ft x 60ft water supply only mooring for sale @ £19k (think it was that) on the web, maybe St Olaves area, can`t remember now.

thanks, but i dont want to buy or should i say cant afford to as im buying a boat.

i also think i saw that and was restricted to a 27' boat as its stern on.

    thanks anyway.

I would say you have still got all the Broads apart from up river of PHB, Ludham, Wroxham, Beccles Old and possibly Norwich some of the time.  Can you live with that whilst you own this boat? That could be for years. Have a moment to ponder on this, then either go for it or keep looking

What about saving money, buy a tired cheaper boat. Use the money you have saved to ‘Make it Yours’

You then have a ‘Keeper’ that can utilise the whole of all the rivers

Hope this helps but probably won’t!

    Griff

thanks great advice, already did the make it yours option, with a bounty 30, trouble is making it ours cost upwards of 20k, the boat we are looking at requires no work, if i can find a nice reasonably priced mooring i am going to make an offer, as i also think wroxham to norwich is a lot of river.

im thinking my wife loves the boat and i like it a lot so its probably a keeper, just going to let them sweat for a few days while i check out moorings, then put in an offer and keep fingers crossed.

    thanks mark.

With that airdraft you are better mooring on the southern rivers even if it means a bit of travelling to the boat.

yes i may agree with you, but would prefer it to be this side, i like the southern side, but would prefer this side if poss, i assume yarmouth bridges wouldn't be a problem at low water, hopefully!!

would have prefered proper broads boat, but in comparison seem really expensive and most really tired ex hire craft.

As it may struggle to get under the Yarmouth bridges too, why not look on the S Rivers?? At least you will be able to go somewhere!!!  I must admit I am generally in favour of Broads boats for Broadland rivers (although Robin may feel differently! )

Womack staithe - the parishioners bit -  probably has a waiting list and you of course may well not be eligible living in Stalham

hi i thought yarmouth bridges wouldn't be a problem at low tide? or am i mistaken?

  11. Hi Everybody,

I have another question for all you boat owners out there, i think i may have found a boat that both me and more importantly the wife love, 1 major snag, all the places i have previously moored at, were all very competitively priced, but all under bridges that the possible new boat won't fit, i have moored at porter and haylett's old yard Wroxham now belong's to Landamores, paid around £35 per foot, and also moored at Wayford bridge similar monies, but the possible new purchase has air draught of 9'6" which means cant get under Ludham bridge and definately not Wroxham bridge.

So any ideas? may put in offer on boat if i can find decent priced moorings, i live near Stalham so not particulary bothered where the mooring is, have thought womack staithe may be worth looking at,

what do you guys think? your input would be much appreciated, and apart from ludham, wroxham, and beccles old bridge, are there any other down sides to a boat with that sort of height?

    Thanks all mark.

Sorry but I`m not able to advise on what it is worth as I`m still learning myself but for me it would be new flooring throughout, both heads need new walls etc, rework the V cabin, find and cure that leak, new mattresses all round, and rework the seating in the saloon plus I did notice parts of the veneer lifting away in places and the inverter is only really for the TV. Understand the owner is open to offers if that helps.

be interesting what sort of offer, they came from scotland and are ex hire, i may consider putting silly offer in, does anyone one know how much a bow thruster would cost fitted?

  13. Hi Everyone,

thank you all for your contributions, very useful, yes i was aware of the boats at nbs both ex hire, and neither in great condition, not for the asking price, i have looked at the alpha 35 the jury is still out, im actually looking for something with 2 double beds in separate cabins, so that we can take the inlaws with us, which means big enough for me to be able to avoid them when i need too. (if the wife reads this only joking dear x )

I am fortunate enough to live local,  so keeping an eye on the market is not an issue, my only problem is i dont want to pay 40 to 50k and then have to spend loads of money on it, basically i want a fantastic boat for very little money!!! cheeky i know, but everyone's dream too, i expect we all want something for nothing.

we have been very slightly tempted by the aquafibre 37 sedan, on NBS reasonably priced i know, one of them has fairly new engine too, are they any good for broads cruising?, I love the rear deck space, as i am fishing mad, but these boats require modernising inside, and the forward v cabin needs to be fiited out with proper double bed, not sure what this would cost, but would also like canopy over the rear, have seen one with this done looked great, and bow thruster fitted, time i spent whatever that would cost would it be my ideal boat? dont know, but dont want to end up dissapointed.

Think i will just have to take advice from you guys and wait patiently.

    thanks again

    mark.

  14. Hi Everybody,

I am a newbie to this site, but not to boating on the broads, having owned 3 different broads boats, 1st boat 16foot birchwood day boat got me hooked, then we bought a viking 20 "wookie" lovely weekend cruiser, and our last boat which was sold last October a 30 foot bounty which we renamed "sally's dex".

So we are now boat less, and i'm not happy, can't find a replacement for the bounty 30, I am wondering if anyone on this forum may be able to help? I am looking for an aquafibre pearl 38 or aquafibre diamond 35 or something similar, any idea's welcome, I have cash waiting for the right boat.

any suggestions would be most welcome, I am missing having a boat badly, and its only January.

    thanks mark.(newbie)
