  1. The Wind! We were gently floating our flappy thing down the Bure with the tide and no wind in sight. Approaching the waterworks a very strong gust of wind came from nowhere and knocked our Thurne class flat on it's side with the main sail  almost touching the water. The first thing I knew was whilst still sitting on the bench I was looking down at my partner who was up to his armpits in water. The yacht righted itself and we bailed like fury.

A motor cruiser who witnessed it came to our aid and told us he had seen a mini tornado type event come almost straight down on us from above. It certainly did not come from over my shoulder as my hat was loosely plonked on my head and there it remained. Since then I have lost my confidence in sailing and only go out on calm days.

  2. When I last ate their some two years ago (same owners I believe), I was offered both choices, a vegetarian main to accompany a vast range of veg for the same price as the meat carvery or "just" a very large plate of veg for a reduced price. I think it was something like £3 cheaper. The range of veg was extensive an easily made a good meal on its own.

Ha ha, no I am Tyna, who retired and moved to Martham so I can go sailing (Thurne Class Yacht) everyday and am just living the dream.

Griff Hemsby Lifeboat  is independent of the RNLI,so it raises money for itself. Therefore it's important to raise funds in the best way it can.

So rest assured any money raised tomorrow and Sunday we go to support Hemsby  Lifeboat  Station .

Come along 30 stalls, cakes, face painting and 🎅 Santa.

Thanks for the info, that is good to know,  I will make more of an effort to donate to the Hemsby outfit then. I could possibly use 'B.A' as a fund raiser and offer an auctioned skippered weekend afloat for six crew maybe? I have done this a few times before now and each time it has raised over £1k

The Hemsby lifeboat station - as of yet I have never been there.  Popping down at this time of year is out of the question even with the temptation of the offered attractions as it will be in the region of a 350 mile round trip.  During the summer months on the Mighty Tiger though would be doable, especially with a stop over onboard 'B.A'

Now I know this bit will be controversial but I made a conscious decision recently not to donate any more of my hard earned to the RNLI whilst they are being used as a daily taxi service for the illegal immigrants landing on our south shores daily.  Oh and btw - They are NOT refugees before any snowflake wrongly states they are, that is unless france has become a war torn country recently whilst I wasn't looking

    RNLI's loss, Hemsby's gain

The Hemsby Lifeboat hold an annual Herring festival in August.

  5. As per their job advert on Indeed "Welcome to the Stonegate Group!

We are the largest pub company in the UK and employ thousands of staff across our pubs, bars, clubs, and pub support center. Life at Stonegate is exciting, fast-paced, and always fun.

We love investing in our employees and run an award-winning training program that helps our teams reach their goals of becoming General Managers, Area Managers, and everything in between.

If you are customer-focused, passionate, and hard-working we want to hear from you!

    What are we doing?

We are looking to take the New Inn to New Heights by spending some cash on the decor, changing the drinks offer, and updating the food menu.

Want to know what the future looks like?

Then pop along to our sister pub, The Lamb Inn, Norwich to get an idea of the offer and amazing vibe."

  6. In these Covid times the number of people due to hire the boat can change at the last minute as people drop out and others are added, original requests for double duvets become two singles etc. This information may not reach the cleaning crew who tend to work from a schedule printed off the day before.

    Hi,

Herbert Woods used to provide a decent quality map (2011  and 13) with each booking I presume from the comments on here that may no longer be the case if anyone or Woods could confirm.

I acquired a few Herbert Woods maps last year and they are price marked £4.

I'm pretty sure I would benefit from having hearing aids however when  I was referred to specsavers for a hearing test by my Gp I was told that I did not need them. I must say that when I found that I would have to go to Specsavers my heart sunk somewhat as both Tony and I  had very poor service from them. We even changed branches  both were equally awful so I'm not sure what to do now.

You could try one of the free online hearing tests, this is what alerted my partner that he needed a full hearing test.

Dont think the NHS will offer you the in the ear type on the NHS, certainly they were not offered in Norfolk and my batteries last longer than a week. Specsavers, Boots and others are now in the hearing aid market but wouldnt say it is farmed out to them unless it varies to where you live.

We live in Martham, Norfolk. Although Specsavers are recognised Audiologists for some of the county this is not the case for our GP.

Oh wow geez thats a huge sail!! and its kinda a gaff rig, I hoped it was a gaff but read somewhere it was a bermuda..

Thank you so much for sharing..such a pretty thing though!! Geez can't wait!

Clipper is a high peak gaff. My partner who had her last week end said one tip for you is to take the tacks slowly. If you try to spin her around fast she looses all momentum. Enjoy.
