Perhaps I might make a suggestion here.

Rather than try to work out an itinerary, to get a feel for what is reasonable for you, purchase the leisure 40 Ordnance survey map and print of a copy of the distance between broads spots, both in miles and time. (I hope someone here will provide a link)

Then mosey through the multitude of photos on this site to get an idea of the sorts of places you like.

When my parents were hiring boats we use to decide in the morning where we would lunch, and at lunch time where we would go for the night. For my mother the greatest joy was the actual cruising, so waking up somewhere and planning on a 4 or 5 hour cruise would be quite common. Equally there might be a cruise from Wroxham to Salhouse for example, and stay there for both lunch and the night making the days cruise about half an hour.

If pubs are your thing, go through Norfolk Nog's and Jayfire's holiday tales but if it is temperance and solitude you seek then read mine!

I use this distance calculator a lot https://www.norfolkbroadsboathire.biz/distancecalculator.asp.

That takes me back. The papoose, or whatever you call it, got a lot of use when our kids were little. This one's from May 1991. Yes, my eldest is almost 30! Eeek!

Eliza is 2 and half and weighs far too much for her mum or Gran to carry in a papoose. I just tweaked my back opening a can of Strongbow so I will have to take it easy for a few weeks.:default_biggrin:

Can’t recommend The Wherry enough, really friendly and great food. I’ve considered doing that circular walk a few times, so will be interested to hear how you get on. The short walk that Graham and I did across the fields from The Locks was very soggy, but then I guess you have to expect that in March.

    Helen

Whether we manage it in a few weeks or not, it is now on my to do list to visit the Wherry Inn. I like the cruise down to Geldeston so that could be an option.

If your planning to use the Angles Way path then I think you will be OK for most of the route with the buggy, there are a few short stretches where the buggy might struggle with an occupant but that might be the time for a piggy back and carry the buggy if it's not too heavy

Thanks Paul, I think we can only give it a go and see how it is. If it's looking like too much hard work we can always turn back and seek another hostelry for the debrief.

We crossed the bridge at Beccles a few years ago with the thought to walk towards Geldeston. I don't think we were that far before it was more of a track than a path. It probably wasn't long before we turned round and went back. But then we're not regular walkers like yourself Dave. However not sure you would take a buggy down there unless there's a different path than the one we were on.

Thanks Jean, I think you have confirmed what I expected, and might have to leave that walk for another time. Either that, or I do it myself and give the girls some peace for a few hours.

  6. On Monday 27th July we were planning on doing a walk from Beccles Yacht Station to Geldeston with a visit to the Locks Inn and return. I had it all planned out, and thought I would check on how the pub will operate. Imagine my delight when I saw it isn't open on Mondays. I have since been told that the Wherry Inn will be open, so that's Christine's half of mild sorted.

Since planning the walk I have been informed that Grandchild and her mum are likely to be joining us, and that could potentially mean a change of plan.

I read somewhere that the path down to Geldeston on the bank over the bridge, can be a bit wet in places but how wide is it? Said Grandchild is only 2 years old and a 7 mile walk would mean most of it on my shoulders unless the path is suitable for a small buggy.

Any information regarding this route and the likelihood of surviving it would be appreciated. I suppose if the first half was too tricky, a few extra beers and a taxi back from The Wherry wouldn't be the end of the world.

  7. It would be interesting to hear from the boatyards about this.

Obviously I have no idea what actually happened when the group in the video picked up their boat but what if only 2 people or 4, who could say they were from 2 different households picked up the boat and then picked up their friends away from the boatyard?

It doesn't make sense to me that any boatyard would take these kind of risks knowingly.

This series has been a great watch, better than what’s on the tv on many days. It inspired my own Little Bit Extra videos. And I know how much time and thought goes into putting something like this out. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping us amused, entertained and in touch with the Broads Dave. :default_drink_2:

Thanks for watching Jean and keep up the good work with your videos.

Not so sure about the scantily clad ladies! , but thank you Dave for all the effort you have put in on these vlogs for the past 100 days and giving us a much needed Broads fix.   Having not explored the southern Broads much, this one was very useful re the moorings.

Cabin fever and alcohol can do strange things to a person. We might hear from the girls again but they won't be seen again as the demanded more money for appearing on camera.:default_biggrin:

  10. Well, actually it is 99 as I didn't start until day 2. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Just like losing 7 lb whilst in lockdown seemed like a good idea too. Now, with potentially 3 days of lockdown to go I only have to lose 17 lb and I will have cracked it.

My previous videos have been random footage with a bit of lightheartedness thrown in. Day 100 is a 100 minute long special. I had the idea that come Saturday the Northern Rivers could be a tad busy, so I used some footage from April 2019 that follows us to the Southern Rivers.

It is intended as a guide for anyone who would like to escape the north for a few days who might be a bit nervous about the Breydon Triangle.

For seasoned cruisers there is the opportunity to see how cabin fever has affected my sanity.

It is my suspicion (just a suspicion mind) that someone has worked out that the economic condition of this country, is every bit as important as the health of the people in it.

It is the same scenario with nonessential shops opening, allowing me to shop with countless strangers, who may have touched something I purchase. People not following the guidelines and the arrows if they have them, and certainly not at all times remaining 2 metres away from me, yet I still can't have my family round unless we are outside and there's only 6 of us in total. No economical value for a family get together.

  12. Hi everyone,

I used to be a constant lurker here many years ago and recently was pointed here by a member (not a derogatory term). I won't mention his name as you might block him. :default_biggrin:

Whilst lockdown has curtailed our jollies for a while I have been putting old footage together to create a series of Lockdown Videos. If you have a spare day or two you can check out the playlist at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl9T4O9V1ZRdOBF-MY1iskxDkgmlPydFR

I had an email from Fred (whoops, cat out of bag) regarding another issue and then he told me to get over here as people are talking about me. My paranoia kicked in so I thought I better check it out.  Reading through the comments I would like to thank you all for your kind words and apologise to YnysMon for the confusion.

Having a quick look around and it has grown a lot since I was last here. I will have a good look around tomorrow after fishing.
