  1. I presume you have a hot water cylinder?

id go for a normal domestic mixer shower, then you won’t be reliant on shore power.

your boat seems to be set up to be quite reliant on a 240 v supply .

there are no power supplies outside of the marinas on the Ouse.

our broom 30 is all geared for basic mooring and it works quite well but one can get a bit paranoid about battery charge levels😆

  2. Hi Daniel,

Where abouts in the marina did you get a berth in the end?

EA have move to caution from SSA but I’m not 100% certain that st ives lock has been reopened,

I think the upstream locks are open now.

I’ll be down Friday to do some jobs, then back on Sunday for a cruise up to hemingford meadows ,if all goes well we will carry on upto godmanchester on Monday, back to Jones on Tuesday.

    have you made plans yet?

  3. Hi Daniel,

hope you got your jobs done ready for getting it wet again next week.👍

    my jobs were less glamorous,

    cleaning ,cleaning.

    both heads nice and clean.

hope to bump into you on the river😆

I will be there on Sunday, to finish off the anti fouling

Going to do a second coat on the bow and waterline, and hopefully Jones have moved the support stands a bit today so I can paint the patches they will have left

If you are still there Mike, it would be great to say 'Hi' to you

I had a wander over to your boat today but obviously you we not around,

I’ll come and find you tomorrow.

    👍

The water level at Jones in St.Ives (RGO) has been back to normal for a couple of days now, having dropped from over 1.1m the last week

With a good weather window, they are starting to put boats back in the water from today, rather than next week.

Coming down tomorrow, maybe a cruise on Sunday if things are ok.

I’ve not seen the boat since December so a good clean is the 1st priority

My work situation is a bit fluid at the moment, so not committing to anything at the moment, but I'd been thinking I might buy a smaller boat and moor it at either Westview or Pike & Eel. The situation at the moment has really put me off though. The Old West isn't completely unaffected, but seems much less prone to extreme conditions. I think I might look more seriously at Fish & Duck, Tiptree or Upware as possible options if I do look at keeping something on the RGO. Being local, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a boat I can't use for half the year.

The basin by the shop was quite empty and I was a bit distracted by a nice looking aft cockpit Fairline Mirage, so I didn't notice Sweep. If I'm around again, I'll make a point of looking out for her. I'm not sure if Jones' might have moved some boats from the main basin into either the sales area or the new basin for more shelter?

    As you probably know,

the old west has no real flow from the Ouse, only what comes through the lock, and runoff obv.

as to the marinas you’ve mentioned,I’d go and take a good look at them and speak to some boat owners berthed at them before committing.

at least with Jones you know that should conditions become poor they will do their utmost to look after your boat.

  7. My normal berth is the other side of the two big trees.

iirc, that’s the 3rd time since Easter that the spit of land has been submerged.

the 1st time, just after the boats were lifted back in,the water was so high that the cruiser next to mine lifted its stern mooring line off the pontoon and was sideways on resting against the big willow tree, actually floating above the normally dry land.

big shout out to the staff at Jones though because it was soon sorted (this was a Saturday evening.

the following week the pontoon was modified.

the web cams did go off though whilst it was recovered :default_hiding:

I've been keeping an eye on the webcams all week - the depth marker is showing 1m high

Glad I am out the water for the winter !

I’ve no idea where my boat is,

it was hopefully moved last weekend to a floating pontoon,

    either that or it’s sunk/floated away/ been nicked.:default_blink:

was going to go down today but the weather was just nasty and I didn’t fancy driving down

Unlike normal locks Oulton Broad has double lock gates to allow for the fact that depending on tide Oulton Broad could be higher or lower than lake Lothing. On a canal water is always higher one side of the lock, hence single gates. To let water out through Oulton Broad lock would mean opening four gates and tremendous pressure on the last set as they are opened. Probably more than they would stand now.

Presumably they have slackers or sluices?

    they could open them?
    would be better than nowt?

They use to open the lock gates at Oulton Broad to drain Waveney faster into Lake Loathing, any body there noticed this happening this year?. John

I was wondering why they don’t let some out at that end?

it would seem to make perfect sense to me:default_dunce:

It was very evident that recent storms brought levels up everywhere. Locally, the Great Ouse was extremely high. I also noticed videos online from Rufford Ford up in Notts showing record levels of water.

What's notable now though is that the Great Ouse has come down dramatically and is actually relatively low for this time of year - currently about 2ft below the level where it causes flooding. That does tend to suggest a specific issue such as dredging worsening the situation on the Broads.

Have BA done some or all of the planned dredging work below Yarmouth yacht station now?

I think the difference on the gt Ouse is the levels can be managed better.

At Denver complex there were boats sat on the bottom as the EA dumped a vast amount of water at low tide, and also into the relief channel.

also the washes were flooded at Earith.

this at least ,gave the flood water somewhere to go.

the river has been underSSA for a month so I assume the EA have been attempting to remove excess water at low tides.

Was it something I said :default_hiding:

    Ha,definitely not,

im a bit concerned over the amount of use we get versus the cost on the Ouse ,

i love the river and area, but the river was unnavigable until after Easter.

been under SSA since October,it seems like godmanchester lock is broken.

the upstream locks (can’t remember which) will be closed from January till Easter next year.

    £4K for 4/ 5 months of use

    unlucky year I guess but,,,,

might move it up to the Trent but the nicest marina is owned by someone I’m not fond of🤬

  13. It’s a shame the SSA was still in place and the lock out of action over this weekend !

quite a few people unable to relocate boats for the coming Crane out.

id seen on Facebook that a rental cruiser from Ely has been stuck at Jones since October the 13th,also a narrow boat moored downstream of the lock.

I must admit ,it’s been a bit of a disappointing season for us this year,

we had more than one conversation about relocating the boat to another waterway with us weighing up pros and cons.

we may get lucky and have a dry mild winter so we can have some days out.
