A warm welcome from Katie and myself .

Dont Forget , us fellow members love photos of members boats and their adventures afloat

    Or their misadventures.....:-)

Trouble is your too busy "misadventuring" to take pictures.... not that I woud want peeps to see us hit Wroxham bridge first time out,,

    Welcome JSC from us newbies

    R&M

  2. La Dolcie Rita, now renamed, we like the font.  Hopefully all ok as I could only find 6 of the virgins required.

Now relocated to our permanent mooring in South Walsham.  A big result we would say, away from the hustle and bustle of Wroxham.  Only one swan, two ducks and a goose.  Oh and maybe three otters, not to sure... We disregard seagulls...

I have to applaud NBS especially Kerry, ok they got their commission on the boat but, it did not end there.  Moved the boat to SW, and Kerry collected us and took us back to Wroxham to collect the car. Customer service... at the highest.

Amused me, 2.5 hours by river, 20 minutes by car...

We have Marine Tech as a neighbough, engine booked in for annual service, (not budgeted for) Grrr.  Had a pump out. £20 bugger that we are going to have to learn to poo less...  But as the memsahib said, "who wants to deal with your sh*t "

We are very slowly gaining experience, moored up at Acle bridge, made a right cock up as got the wind and tide completely wrong.    Not as wrong as the next boat I have to say.

Sat imbibing a lemonade?  and this hire boat came in to moor, a chap all alone, he made it look so bloody easy..  We will get there I am sure...  As long as the Memsahib does as she is told, I am the captain, I think....

A couple of things regarding power / hookups:

First I recall (but it's been 2 years) that the Ferry House at Surlingham had it's own proprietary system. Cards purchased at the bar

In terms of how much cable - as much as possible but I know experts will caution about overloading - the longer the cable the greater the resistance ... it's also worth getting / making a 32A to 16A converter as you are likely to come across posts where both 16A sockets are taken but the larger 32A one is not.

    Enjoy the learning experience!

Can I assume that the standard is 16amp, ie, the one I have on the boat now.  So need to convert that with a female 16 amp to a male 32 amp???  All good stuff and thanks.

  4. Dear peeps.

Just back from a few days on our new boat..

First thing we had to get was an extension lead for the hook up...  Thanks above...  :default_arms:

Wednesday, decided to take all down and before we travelled to our new mooring in S Walsham to take a trip to Coltishal. Under the Wroxham bridge. She says are you sure, me F that go for it.  Lined it up.. perfect.. then I put it into neutral to let it drift through.  I will let your imagination run riot as to what happened next... We reversed and got out quick and went the other way  to Ranworth.  All education.  Thankfully no damage..  Not that I am admitting to anyway...

We are looking forward to mooring at S Walsham, Wroxham is just busy,  However we met a lot of good helpful people..

    Life is good..

  5. So you can all have a bit of a chuckle, or maybe remembering your first visit to you new boat. We have a medium size SUV. It is full to the gunnels with stuff, there is a small carry on case in the corner with our clothes in... My comment is, there is no way we are going to find room for all that toot... but the female is what they are.. Not sure where the dog is going??  :55c8f94984577_default_AnimatedGifDogs(127):

You might be pleased to hear that modern outboard engines are reasonably good at charging your batteries. They are not as good as the diesel inboard engines but not bad all the same. Make sure you set your fridge correctly so that it keeps everything cool but doesn't flog itself to death when there is no need. Get an additional length of shorepower cable because you often get moored too far from an available electric post for one cable. It's all good fun.

Ah ha, good thought.  So basically an extension cable, How many metres do you think, silly question as I do not know how many metres I have onboard..  I will don my dunces hat and go into the naughty corner.

finding a mooring where you want, put it this way, have a plan B and a plan c , the popular moorings frequently fill up quickly, and even if you have only just set sail, if there is a mooring at horning staithe, you have to go for it, as it may be the only time you manage it. hookups at broads authority moorings take a card, these cost around £1 (been a while since i bought one) and can be obtained at the broads authority HQ, some shops have them, and the rangers have them if you see them, the BA office at ranworth has them too. (i  am sure others will chip in with other places they can be obtained.

pubs with hookup, you will probably have to go in to pay, some pubs charge for moorings too.

oulton broad and beccles have their own systems, beccles has different cards, oulton broad you pay more to use the hookup

    I don't even have a plan A at the moment... :default_sailing:

    Hi Roger, from Kate.
If my experience of buying a boat last year is anything to go by, you are in for a lot of fun, along with some minor worry. Just make sure the fun outwits the worry. I’ve decided that anything and everything on a boat is sortable, they are simple beasts, so you just tick the worries off one by one and enjoy the cruising in between!

Thanks Kate.  Have to say the help from all of you has really made my day. Also I do have to give all the staff at NBS a thank you.

Arriving at Wroxham around 12 tomorrow to take her over...  I will say with some trepidation, can I put learner plates on it???

For a first trip I would go up river to somewhere like Salhouse. I only say that because if you have to hold station for a while in a bit of cross wind at Ludham Bridge it might be a bit of a test first time out, The Ant is also quite narrow. I would stick to the wide River Bure and really get the feel of how she handles.

Our actual first trip will be Wroxham to S. Walsham to our moorings, so we will pass Salhouse.

Any other easier trips, going right

  10. TBH, I have been a bit of a pain asking questions about this and that..  I suppose that they are a broker not the actual seller?

Do you think that type of gas and fittings is common to all boats.  I remember it is blue but not dark or light blue. Screw fitting, male or female or even the top connector type..  So may alternatives.  But there as it has only done 10 hours, must be a fair bit of gas left??
