RedRover
Tried to start my Honda 10HP engine today. none starter, question: if i tilt the engine on my transom to keep it out of the water and clear of all the rubbish floating there so keeping the waterways clear will the oil drop down into the cylinders so making it hard to start. The propellor is only about 6 inches off the water so tilt does not look to excessive to me.anyone else had this problem if it is that. Plenty of clean fuel,Battery charged ok had a service in november.Last time out 2 weeks ago had same problem started after about 8 mins trying and had to leave the choke open to stop it from stoping after around 15 to 20 minutes was ok to put choke in. Palmtree
Hi, I would not of thought lifting the outboard should be a problem, unless there was crud in the bottom of the tank and that has entered the carb. If you can get to it, take the spark plug out and have a look at its colour. Having had a service the plug should be quite new without any heavy deposits. Black crud on the electrode might indicate oil entering the bore, white flaky bits that the engine is running lean (both could also be a fuel supply problem, or plug not changed at service ). Either way I suspect the service has changed something. Hope this helps Ian
RedRover
Thanks ian, prior to the service the engine was running smoothly and started most times at first turn of key. i phoned the service man and he is looking at it tommorow he seems to think it could be a faulty plug.hope so as wanted to cruise around today it being nice and sunny.
