    Clive was correct with his first observation...She is an Osprey...No.2 (S188)...

    Pleased to see the pic of GL1 came in handy...If any of my pics are of any use to you in the future, please feel free to use as you require...I would be only too pleased to have them shared than stuck away in an draw somewhere and not appreciated.

    Good to see that your resto is still coming along nicely. Are you working on the screens at the moment?

    Oh...and the paint for the roof 'Cream' ...with a dark brown canopy...Spot on

    Many thanks to you all for your replies to my request for info ref the turning of the coasters...Would have loved to seen it done... With no tug assistance it must have employed a special technique to position them into the correct part of river to enable the turn...I presume that they were 'thruster' assisted to get the bow over when reversing away from the pivot point as in Carol's google map link...a very delicate procedure no doubt...Where's Rod...I bet he could do it ;)

    Barry...Thanks for the pic...It certainly puts things into perspective when you see it like that...and as you quite rightly put it all respect must go to our resident pilot for the job he does...and the responsibility of handling such a vessel (although small in comparison to what he is used to)...I hold my hand out to them cheersbar

    I well remember my Dad learning the horn signals just in case we happened to encounter one on the Yare...but strangely enough, we never did...or not that my memory can recall...

    And obviously accidents did happen...although a rare occurance I'm sure...Fancy being nipped by one of those :shocked

    Fascinating stuff Jill ...from the industrious area of Norwich to the tranquil beauty of Thorpe Green...wonderful :clap

    One question...Where on earth did they turn those huge (for the narrow reaches of water used for unloading/loading) vessels around for the outward trip back to Yarmouth and destinations beyond ?.. :?

    Indeed top marks to Carol for the link to 'Picture Norfolk'...Thirty pics of the Norwich Port area...Superb :clap

    I can't personally ever remember it being that busy and to see pleasure boats winding their way between such 'huge' vessels...crikey (wonder how many near misses they had ? :shock: )

    Moving on...whilst on the subject of Carol's link, I typed in various other locations such as Potter Heigham/Wroxham/Horning and some of the old pictures that are shown for those areas are amazing...so once again Carol you have come up with yet another cracking source of information for us all to enjoy...Thankyou

    Yes Barry...she is indeed 'Gryphon' although at the time of your picture would still have been called 'Oyster'...the name she ran under whilst still owned by the Neatishead Boatyard...another lovely shot by the way...

    I can't remember exactly, but from the time of your pic to the time of Mr R purchasing her she underwent a refit...Moving the toilet compartment to the rear cabin (to enable larger windows to be fitted to the topsides and removal of one berth in the process) very dark inside apparently with light only coming in via 3 very small portholes...hence she then became a 3 berth instead of the original 4...and I believe was the time her change of name also...

    Now whether she was converted by Neatishead or after arrival at Stalham I'm not sure...Will have to dig deeper :?

    Pump outs

    Yes, as Clive has already said...Unfortunately nowadays all yards do charge for pump-outs unless it is a home based craft on a let of more than 7 nights...and some charges we had quoted were quite excessive IMHO...(Sept 2009)

    However, we were fortunate in having one of Clives boats 'Broads Serenade 2' and having covered the southern rivers during the first week of an 11 night holiday called at Horizon at Acle on the way back north and recieved a first class service and 'FOC'...Very obliging chaps too... cheersbar

    Hi Neil...Just love your idea to resurrect some of the names from days past...as I'm sure you are aware that the 50's - 70's were what I still consider to be the 'heyday' of Broads Boat Building with differing styles coming from individual yards...

    Once fibreglass arrived on the scene (and I'm not knocking it...some lovely boats out there...been on enough :lol: ) the only redeeming feature in most cases was the external paintwork...after all an 'Ocean 30' will always be an 'Ocean 30' if you get my drift...Just different yards putting their own stamp on internal fitment ect...

    However...back to the name issue... :cool: ...My thoughts are as yours Neil and have mentioned this to Clive previously ;)

    Psst...Just in case he's listening :P

    What I would like would be a revival of one of my (and Clives) love of the past 'Broadsventure'...Now we're talking...but with a different twist to differentiate from the IMHO only class of boat worthy of that name... :love:love

    Here we go Clive...'Broads Venture' as befitting a craft of this size and would fit in well with the existing fleet of 'Broads Serenade (another old name) - 'Broads Harmony/Sunrise/and 'Sunset'...and after all it is a new venture

    Come on Clive...How about it ?? :trophy

    Thanks for that Barry...

    A lovely shot...and one of my all-time favourite mooring spots...were there only last Sept (virtually same place as your pic)...

    Unfortunately like you I cannnot make out the Reg either but for some strange reason (and I have mentioned this to Clive) A969 is whirring round in my head for this particular boat 'White Rabbit'...I'm 99.9% sure the number started and finished with a 9 but for the life of me am not so sure of the middle No. The annoying thing is that I used to know all these by heart when I worked there... :?

    Anyway thanks for your sterling effort...1950 :o ...Maybe another one in your box ?? ;)

    I am in the process of updating my records of the Richardson's fleet during the 60's but through time I have lost some of the info I had and the grey cells on memory are not quite what they used to be so...

    Is there anyone out there that had any experience of Hiring or possibly photographing any of the following boats that were in the fleet from the early 60's (Eastick's) or mid 60's (Neatishead Boatyard). What I need are their respective reg Nos...

    'Mandarin' class - Forward drive 2 berth ex Easticks Acle formerly known as 'Vega' before renaming...I have one 'B343' ...the other two sadly not...

    'Flamingo' - 'Tweedledee' - 'White Rabbit' and 'Whiting' - all aft well 2 berth's ex Neatishead Boatyard and finally...

    'Glenway' a centre wheelhouse 33' 5 berth also ex Neatishead Boatyard formerly known as 'Alice in Wonderland'...

    Any info would be most appreciated...I realise that I may be asking a lot but some-one may have something...

    What can I say Carol.... :clap

    Yet another super collection of 'archive' footage...so 'Many' thanks from me for finding and uploading for us all to enjoy...

    Just love the B/W film and amazing to see the area in movie mode going back to the 30's...Superb

    Favourite has to be the footage of the 'Windmill Girls' on board George Smith's 'Sparkle 1'...after the Ricko's 42' 'Broadsventure/Broadlander' scenes at Salhouse of course... ;)

    Hi Mark42...finally got round to posting... :oops:

    Am pleased to see that you have been replied to ref 'Geldeston'...I knew I could leave it to someone to come up with the answer...No problem with turning at 'The Locks' as Clive has mentioned...The only thing I would be wary of is underwater vegetation if you venture up the cut towards the village (Rowancraft)...We did but only in the dinghy...

    You will not be disappointed with 'Sunset'...'Serenade' from the same stable really amazed us as to how good it was...quiet, smooth and superb handling boat (bow thruster a definate plus) ...sliding canopy a dream...and the transom configuration (something we were not entirely decided on to start with) excellent...A craft that (with only minor alterations if it were me) ticks all the boxes...Would hire again anytime...Roll on the 'RC45 for 2011'

    Was talking to Hoss earlier this year and he said that it was still in a restorable condition...if I get the lottery up shortly I'll give you a call and we can go down to the VWBA rally together...Year to be advised - This Next Sometime...Dreaming again :lol:

    HI Neil...

    I know this is a little off topic but I feel that Clives forward thinking in going back to boats that cover the whole Broads network is a master stroke...plus the fact that I love the more traditional style of cruiser that I grew up with...and Clive knows my all time favourites well ;)

    These new designs I feel, although modern and in keeping with progress will also appeal to the likes of myself as 'traditional' Broads Cruisers...and am saving for 2011 now... :party:

    With ref to favourite rivers like you I've always liked the Ant, but the inaccessable parts (to most) these days are magical... The Wroxham - Coltishall and Beccles - Geldeston stretches my alltime favourites...and you need a cruiser capable of getting there...Roll on the RC45/35 cheers

    Hi Clive...

    They certainly were similar...identical in everyway apart from the stem as I believe it was looked upon with superstition to have a 13th craft in the fleet of the same build and name... :norty:

    Ref the 'free' project 42 footer...would it be the one that Lee and JJ are looking after which earlier this year that I was quoted as being available for c£2000?

    You are 'SPOT ON' Rod... :clap

    The class were still in the building stage when the catalogues were being prepared in 66 for the following year hence the line drawing only...and of course being the only wooden hulled one of the class was the 'plug' used to form the hulls for the other 5
