Great to see the latest progress being made Clive...but a shame that you have had to go further back with repairs and replacement than at first thought...

Hi Clive...
Just picked up on this very interesting thread relating to your Dad's time at Catfield...Amazing the different types of craft that he built there...some of which I knew absolutely nothing about...Gunships ???
Moving further on into the thread a lovely pic of one of the building shops at Stalham showing a 'Siesta' in build ??
Sorry Clive...Hope you don't think I'm being picky, but although I have to agree that the stem and cabin profile is definitely 'Siesta' the cabin sides are certainly not...and the interior shows a bulkhead complete with a light fitting to the port side which the Siesta's wouldn't have had...So she has to be 'Clarion'
A fine addition to pics of her that I now have from build to sadly the the pics you took of her at her demise in Yarmouth earlier this year...Is she still there do you know ???
Great to also see one of my old workmates Dick Grapes at his bench working on screens for possibly 'Clarion' ? or one of my beloved 'Broadlanders' that would have been in build at the same time...True nostalgia
Do you know who took the photograph ??
Best regards
Terry

Good point Clive...Keep that one in the possible file then...

Hi Clive...
Great looking boats these...Nearly as good as one I've seen in the Ponderosa
Joking apart I look forward to the development of these superb looking craft...Proper Broads Design... and if the hull colour is to be adopted as in the drawings, will really stand out as something special in the Hire sector...
Could we possibly see a resurrection of classic names again on the Broads...BROADSVENTURE , BROADLANDER and BROADWAY sound very good to me
Now to start saving for 2011...I'll have a 45 and my daughter will definitely want a 35...Can't wait
All the Best

Hi Clive...
Love those screens...just as if it was 1964 again ...superb job from the lads
As for the tanks...Left hand one - Toilet waste (inlet pipe not under deck)...Right hand one - Fresh water
She's really coming on nicely now...well done to eveyone involved
All the Best

Hi Barry...
Yes you are spot on...She was 'Star Magna 3' in her Powles days...finishing up as far as I can recall at Highcraft in Norwich as one of the 'High "N" Mighty' class...
Hi Jill...
More classic pictures...

Hi Jill.....I'm speechless.... and loving it
Wherever do you keep getting these pictures from of my old favourite BL 3....To have after all this time, some memorable photo's of her that you have been kind enough to share with us I cannnot find the right words to thank you enough....
To most members I appreciate she is just another hireboat that plyed her trade for 20 or so years to be sold on into private ownership....and hopefully she may still be around somewhere....Who knows ??
But for me it certainly brings back wonderful memories of the hours spent with her and the countless weeks of holiday that we enjoyed as a family on her....and she never let us down once
Having covered all of the Broads that it was possible to do (more than once) with a 42 x 11ft cruiser she certainly was one of the very best IMHO
Thanks once again for your detective work in putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with these....just a shame about the 'blue' bit....
Best regards

No problem...More to come as soon as I can get them sorted...
It's good to be able to share with others rather than have them hidden away for years in a draw/cupboard...That way we all benefit from each others observations...past and present
Anything to do with this subject keeps me amused for hours/days.....you get the picture...........

Hi Jill...
Superb bit of detective work and your memories of these wonderful old boats has certainly added to the history of them...from being sold I knew nothing of their whereabouts so your delving for me has certainly come up trumps...
Here is a pic of 'Broadlander 3' on the yard c1967 during her earning years...

Sorry Clive...

Welcome to the forum Mr T...
Yes I'm with Mandy on that one...Marino lovely boat as are the sister ships of her that my daughter hires San Fernando...
Really exellent for layout although the Marino and Fernando differ slightly internally, they are superb handling craft...I would highly recommend them for a party of 4...
Other plus points are a super service and you start your holiday in a lovely part of the Broads...Book direct on 01692 582277 to speak to the most friendly and helpful team...Good at what they do...
As you may guess Im also a Richardson's man..
Best regards

Hi Jonny...
Having worked with these 44 footers I have to admit to having a liking for them...Extremely quiet with the stern mounted engine and hydraulic drive...No vibration and simply glide along...but have to agree with Simon...A lot of boat to slow down so a bit of forward thinking needed when approaching hazards (sailies mainly ) ...failing that a superb boat with stacks of room...
Having holidayed on them Mandy is the best person to offer a true indication of their fors and againsts...
From my point of view the only downside is that the hydraulic drive does help to drink diesel...but in return you get a quiet and smooth ride....and keeping an eye on the tides helps
A Majestic for you...sorry no internals but I bet Dan has
Best regards

Jill...You are really pulling them out of a hat now...re Wards
That was very good but I have to apologise...I thought that "Seahawk" was built in 1927 but if the business wasn't started untill 1929 and she was a self build my info appears to be a few years adrift...
Once again...many thanks for your valuable info...priceless

Hi Clive...
Do you think the one with the blue hull is the one that you have just mentioned ??
She is definitely an ex Fulmar/Pacesetter or early BV 1-5

Hi Jill...
Some nice shots there...just a shame that when boats have a change of name they then become very hard to trace back to their true identity without the vital Broads reg.no...
In cases where they were sold and transported to other waterways, if they returned to the Broads their original reg was in all probability given to another craft and a re-reg No. allocated...as was Clives Broadsventure...another sister ship of the ones in your pictures...making them even more difficult to track down...
Another one, I believe still resides at Wayford awaiting a buyer...I have tried my hardest to find a clue to her identity but as she was one that went down on the Thames and returned approx 2yrs ago that vital No. has vanished...and sadly she is not in the best of fettle...Here is a pic of her
Wards "Seahawk" ...Blimey...Built in 1927 and still in Norwich in 1994...WOW
Do you know anything much about Wards Jill ??
Another high profile hirer in their day...up there with the best...
This is great Jill and thanks for posting

Thanks Jill...
The last one I worked on was Swiftway 3 (R111) now in private ownership and I believe moored at Brundall...
She is now renamed "Queenie" and is a member of the VWBA and will know doubt be down at Beccles this coming weekend for the yearly National meet...
Quite a number of those survived and are in decent condition today...unfortunately Broadway 2 (R59) not so lucky...
