Ok, so after the dissapointment of not being able to attend the WRC Meet after a last minute work commitment on Friday. I decided to put the rest of the weekend to good use and finish the electrical work on the ES refit. I made the journey up to Potter on Friday evening with my daughter (youngest who actually was surprisingly helpful !) I managed to find the light fittings I liked in brass with LED lamp fittments, so ultra low energy consumption! All the interior panel had been trimed and fitted so just required the installation of power sockets, lamp switches and the lamp units themselves - simples!! Well maybe not quite so ... Just waiting for the carpet and vinyl floor covering to be fitted on Monday (tomorrow) and the transformation will be complete. I must say IMHO the result is stunning. It has turned out to be all we had hoped for and more. Here are a few pictures, I'll post some more next weekend after the floor coverings are down. ! Andy.

Hi Andy, I have nothing but praise for Herbert Woods. My experience with them as a hirer over several years was excellent, actually "Evening Star" was an ex Woods boat and as they have a large private boat marina it just made sense to me to have our mooring with them. After all, they were already familiar with our craft. Another benefit is they have all the services you are likely to need in one place, and all at what I have considered to be fairly realistic costs. In particular, Brian Taylors work is exceptional. He is currently putting the finishing touches on our refit. Yes, you are correct - We can't wait to have her back in the water, even though it's only been three weeks, it has seemed a lot longer. She's due to be finished for 30th June, so all being well we should see a few of you at the WRC meet on 3rd / 4th July. ! Andy & Sally

Hi Col, I must say, your seating looks fantastic! nice to see you on Saturday by the way. Yes, we did take the windows out, after releasing all the perimeter screws to get the inside trim off, the side windows were "loose". It makes good sense though as when they go back in the will be resealed so if we did have any leaks before, we definately won't after. ! Andy.

Hi Andy, Just a short note regarding fuses and safety. If you plan to run the power for the cigar lighters directly from your batteries, please make sure that you install the fuse in the supply cable as close to the battery as you can. By doing this you not only protect the sockets against potencial overload but also the majority of the cable run against damage and possible short circuit. ! Andy

Hi Dave, I would strongly recommend a phone call with Brian Taylor of Herbert Woods, as from what you have said, I would have thought that a fairly cost effective route could be to replace the affected area of your canopy. Brian has done some exceptional work for us and has just completed a complete interior refit of our boat. Top man! ! Andy

Wow! What a difference a week makes!! I took a trip up to Potter Heigham this morning to meet Brian Taylor of Herbert Woods. ES was lifted on Monday and the hull has been pressure washed and anti fouled. Most of the head lining is up and the rotten woodwork has all been replaced. All the upholstery is finished and some of the wall covering materials have also been fitted. Another week in the workshop and I'll be going back to refit the windows. All should be finished for the WRC meet on the 4th July!!! ! Andy

What I did find very strange is the lack of air vent in the area above the hob in the galley? the cavity between the headlining and the fibre skin is permanantly damp with the formation of condensation when the hob is used with nowhere for it to evaporate? - A vent is being fitted next week. Also fitted the upper helm instrument panel... ! Andy

Well we have started "Ripping her out" and my first thought is I wish I had never started, as it has got a lot worse before it can get any better !!! What do you expect to find when taking down the headlining in a broads criuser thats been on the water for 18 years?

Hi Dawnyowner After researching the market extensivley for a replacement ignition barrel for the new instrument panel for 'ES' it was apparrent that all the suitable options worked in the same way. Some have the option for an accessory possition to the left of Zero, zero being the point at which the key may be inserted or removed. From zero turning right the first position is the 'run' position the next position is 'heat' (you have to hold the key in this position, if you release then the key will move back to position 1 'run') turning through position 2 to position 3 'start' will crank the engine. Once the engine has fired, releasing the key will return it to position 1 'run' where it should be left until you wish to stop your engine. There is no way (providing your ignition switch is wired correctly) that you will be able to leave the key in any position that will enable the heaters to be energised without holding the key in the 'heat' position. when the key is released it should always return (spring loaded) to the 'run' position 1 state. If you have an accessory position (to the left of zero), this is usually used to provide power to other items such as cig lighters etc. ! Andy.

I thought it might be a good idea to take a few piccys of the interior so you can see a before and after? I have pretty much completed all the work that I am able to do on my own, so far I have : 1. Made and fitted complete new instrument panel. 2. Fitted Digital TV antenna with 4-way signal distribution and fitted TV points in Saloon and cabins. 3. Replaced burnt out inverter and re-wired 240v system delivering power to cabins, galley and saloon. 4. Upgraded battery isolation. 5. Refitted galley. 6. Cut down and modified Port side saloon cabinet to form base for new seating / small 1/4 birth 7. Upgraded both shower controls to thermostatic type. 8. Fitted new inset basin and thermostatic mixers in main cabin en-suite. The next stage is the stuff I can't do! On the 7th June ES will be lifted and moved to her new home for the next two and a half weeks. During that time the following will be completed : 1. Remove all windows. 2. Remove and renew headlining (soft cream). 3. Remove all grey wallcovering and replace with same in biscuit. 4. Retrim cave lockers in light brown faux suede. 5. Renew all foam for matresses and seating and re-trim accordingly. 6. Fitt new carpets and vynyl floor covering throughout. 7. Fitt new curtains. 8. Re-fitt and re-seal all windows.
