Starting to eat again can only be a good sign 👍

Sod the eating, the good sign is that he's back to moaning about everything! He's got a tv and was watching a home decorating show and saying how bad of a job they are doing!.. Everything crossed they don't put a cooking show on!

    Hopefully you are home soon.

  2. Our tolls certainly aren't 10%, at £440 next year it will a good 20-25% really,  I certainly remember the first year we had Orca on the broads it was something like £230, so it's almost doubled and that was only 2 BSC's ago.

What I really don't understand is who much of the BA is funded by the tolls? £4mill a year on salaries feels like most of it.. Isn't the BA's costs split between tools, defra (and whatever the planning department side does?). Is there a breakdown of these expenses.

I wish it was easy to sell the boat and be done with the broads at this rate, it's really not worth it anymore and the BA is an organisation I really don't want to have to deal with.

Their best chance of success is getting the details of the helm at the time of mooring, which you are only obliged to provide to a ranger upon them showing if requested, written evidence of his authority, this would eliminate most of the information centre staff who most likely do not have that authority.

Does this section in the byelaws not suggest any employee has such authority?  Whilst 68.1 may not apply (as it's not a lawful order under the byelaws) but could 68.2 apply?

Sadly I've had a number of problems with the just giving page.Ive tried to resolve the problem, without  success. So please  don't attempt  to donate  to my just giving page.I will soon close  this page.

  5. Hi all. So Saturday night I fell of a ladder at home. I woke up to see a bight yellow helicopter flying around after an hour and half wait for land based transport. I'm 45kt winds I was flown to Norwich and Norfolk. A 2 hour emergency operation and 4 days on the ward. Thankfully home now (yes way too soon) but back tomorrow and will just see that happens.

Please please please sponsor the east anglia Air ambulance. We never know what the next second brings. They are real flying hero's.

  6. Send a copy to evidence@broads-reform.org, they are liasing with a contact direct at DEFRA who is investigating the BA to hopefully fix the issues and point JP towards the door.

  7. I'm surprised the exceptional Suffolk gazette has reported on this, We have only been Suffolk residents for erm 2 and a bit years but already we know that you just look at our weird northern neighbours quickly and then turn back and see the civilised southern culture of the southfolk.

  8. Welll..

Back in 1991 I found a hoseasons brochure down stairs, I asked mummy what it was and she said "Your dad wants to go on a boat but we aint doing that we going on a horse holiday to norfolk instead". I tried talking to Daddy to see if we can go on a boat as the boat looked cool and Daddy said Mummy was being a wimp and afraid of the water so no chance (To be fair I enjoyed the horse holiday though). Mummy was still a wimp and we never went as a young family so when I was 17 and dave was 18 (what 2000 maybe)  I booked the first trip with Silverline on Silver Melody 2, we came up by National express from london which was painful but it was brilliant holiday, I crashed "Mel" so many times god knows how she stayed afloat, but we returned again and again (Funnily not with Silverline though?!), mainly with Alpha craft as they were modern! (Then funnily with Marthams towards the last few days as they seemed original).  We abandoned the broads for a bit and did some sailing locally in Kent, after getting fed up with Mud and a few too many dodgy moments we got Orca and she came up I guess 8 years ago now (geez! - although Covid years don't count).

3 hire boats moved off again as soon as being told about the charge

Does make me wonder if the person making these vessels move off are in some way "preventing, obstructing or hindering the lawful mooring of any vessel" by making it move off?

    Hello CambridgeCabby,

"The Authority currently manages 53% more mooring frontage than twenty years ago (data not shown in table), 9.9% more than 10 years ago and 4.8% more than five years ago. Although the total number of different 24-hour mooring sites has fluctuated from year to year, the length of mooring frontage has increased despite pressures from landowners as well as rising material and equipment costs."

There's more information on this in Broad Sheet Feb 2023 and on this page here: https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/news/frequently-asked-questions-navigation-charges-2023 (scroll down a bit)

In response to whether the figures are accurate/include double mooring. They are fairly accurate but some mooring lengths on our website are approximations/rounded up so may not be to the exact metre. The figures above are for mooring frontage in metres, so don't include double mooring.

    Hope that helps,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Just regarding the length of mooring meters for this year. Can you advise where this data comes from? I've looked on https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/facilities/moorings and if you pop these figures through a calculator you get 7824 meters.

    Thanks, Alan

and now they impose a mooring charge which they MUST realise will have a seriously bad effect on boating tourism in future.

Just to rub some more salt here, I tried emailing the BA, as per Rob Rogers (Director of operations at BA) reply in bold, they believe the introduction of the fees enables better use of the spaces and more visitors visit ranworth and local businesses have seen an uptake in business.  Pretty amazing for the first few weeks if you ask me so an amazing job BA.. well done :default_huh:

Is this "brainwave" idea of filling busy waterways with people on unregistered boards and kayaks a good cash earner for the BA then?

How many rangers are they likely to allocate to the three rivers involved to try to ensure the safety of those taking part and everyone else on the water?

Maybe they will come up with the idea that no-one else will be allowed on the water whilst this debacle takes place !

    Jeff

Obviously as you may know, if the paddlers are members of British Canoeing then their membership covers use on the broads without the need for a Broads toll. The Rangers have always stopped and checked me when I've been in ours.

In somewhat, balance here, the event has been going on for some years and personally my view is the broads are for everyone not just boaters and it obviously the broads should be shared fairly and no one should any right above anyone else, personally I think the BA have done well to keep this balance.  The event mentioned is only a couple of hours, personally I would say it's less disruptive to navigation as the 3rr is.

  14. It does seem a tad poor show if users of a mooring provided by the BA have to use special shoes because an unsuitable material has been used.. why are we jumping through hoops instead of getting the BA to use suitable materials?

  15. Problem I understand, is that if they do too much it could affect further down the coast and somewhat further down the coast are two/Three nuclear things.  It's crap but hopefully they can do something.

  16. That seems to be the standard response from the Ministers.  I did as suggested there and the BA response was extraordinary but it's somewhat clear the ministers are aware of the complaints and the CEO and Chair are pretty rattled!
