so you're pumping the handle and the water just comes up, nothing going down pipe.

If you mean it continues to fill with water when it should be evacuating it may be a problem in the manual pump head.

There is a flap valve at the base of the piston tube if its not continuing to fill my guess would be that it has failed.  A full service kit will probably solve this. All the Joker valve does on the outlet flange is stop material coming back into the bowl after passing through it, if you can get a cable through it by hand that isn’t your issue. If there is a blocked pipe there would be back pressure on the handle.

Most modern cars and lorries have particulate filters so they are not the problem...

The biggest generator of particulates is.. Public transport IE buses, they often very old. Hence the road round the bottom of the castle where all the buses sit on idle is one of the most polluted roads in Norfolk..

Buses on Castle Meadow are not supposed to idle for more than 2 minutes but there are problems that come with switching the vehicle off.

It might not start again and the driver and passengers get cold!

First thing a controller says to a driver when radioing in to report a  bus that wont start..........why did you switch it off!

  3. Thank you for the information Tom.  Are you able to tell us the model of the original engine and the new more suitable model that has now been fitted.

This might help those of us with a technical interest achieve a better understanding of the vessel.

  4. I wonder how they would manage if the bridge became stuck open and engineering staff couldn't get across to it for repairs or the operator couldn't get back to go home.

I can half understand them not wanting to pay out wages but its still not good enough just to abandon their responsibilities to navigation even if it is Christmas day.

The bridge could easily be left open and the operator brought back across in a dinghy, it isn’t difficult.

  5. I don't believe there is a great deal of leeway in the gauge at Ludham Bridge.  I have taken (my own) 8ft 6 airdraft under with 8ft 4 showing on the gauge and it was cigarette paper tight, there is also more clearance on one side than the other due to the slight slope on the bridge.

If hire yards didnt slightly over state  airdraft on certain boats they would be repairing a lot more damage than they are now.

Ive seen hire boats that have supposedly been repaired after bridge damage and the repairs can look an absolute mess depending on which yard it belongs to.

Get stuck under a bridge at Great Yarmouth and the boat can end up a ruin!

  6. They say the heavier the Battery the better the quality however as you never can tell how long a Battery is going to last I always go for the cheapest 110’s I can find then if I only get 3 years from it Im not loosing any sleep.  The likes of Bosch & Varta etc come with big price tags but who knows if they are actually going to last you any longer than the equivalent cheapo.  I have found 110amphr leisure batteries for as little as £65 in the past and they did the job just fine.

  7. Trying to look at this from the Boatyards point of view,

The extra cleaning that will undoubtedly be required and wear and tear to carpets and upholstery from having pets onboard could be a very costly business.

We all know there are responsible pet owners amongst us and then there are those that let their large breed dogs clamber all over the upholstery etc etc.

It got to the stage on our boat that taking our large breed dog along became an absolute liability, our small dog was better but the extra cleaning required from having an animal onboard is likely to be significant especially if the next people to hire the boat may not be bringing a pet and not be very fond of dog or cat hair.

Unless a dog is very well behaved I cant think of anything more stressful!  Some dogs are more suited to boats than others!

I am sure one of the boat yards once posted some pictures on one of the forums showing how badly a boat had been left and not just because of the pet that had been with them.

  8. IMO Buying new isn't cost effective when you consider depreciation over the first few years and only keeping for 3 years your taking a big hit each time even if your a cash buyer.

No offence intended but the OP has advertised something for sale is it helpful to suggest reasons people shouldn't want to buy it......

Re Marsh Harriers, whenever I see them, they are a little way inland, so I didn't consider them.  Cormorants, yes another predator, but I thought they only take from the river, and do not take nesting birds or others from the land. As for the American Mink, obviously another example of man's interference in matters of nature.

I'm sure somebody told me that Catfish are also on the Broads, is that true, and are they a natural UK spices or invasive?.

Im almost certain i had a large Wells follow in a lure once. I saw a very wide head just below the surface, made me look twice I can tell you!

Its like carp, supposedly in good numbers but Ive never seen one in the Broads.
