The sun is shining in Lowestoft at the moment. :)

At the moment. I was hoping to use Monday as my first proper day out of the season. Typical bank holiday forecast, heavy rain all day!

We found the best thing was to take the dog into the shop and see which model/size fitted best. I know that’s not possible when buying online but it’s the only sure way of a good fit.

My wife did buy one online for our staffy, which seemed to fit ok, but when we tried to pick him up with the handle on the back, used obviously to help drag a wet dog from the water, it simply broke away.

Lesson now learned, we will be taking him into Jeckels in Lowestoft to have him properly fitted, with one designed for purpose. Our dog is as much a member of the crew as anyone else, he is therefore worthy of the best we can buy.

  3. Ironically; the best and worst for me were the same kind of boat, a bounty 37. One had truly uncomfortable beds and an engine that would overheat if you pushed it above 1800 rpm, which made crossing Breydon not much fun; the other with far better beds, and a better serviced engine, of the same type, that I could run against a 3-4 knot tide at full chat without it getting warm.

Have our own boat now, so not much hiring from here on in.

  4. Our first night on the Broads was 1996. We had hired a Wilds Bermuda from Horning, and spent the first night on Ranworth Broad. This was my wife’s first experience of boating holidays, and she was also pregnant with our son, but neither put her off, and so we have been boating together ever since.

  5. I assumed you meant HMS Belfast. It’s a ship I would love to go and visit, health being the prohibiting factor, because my father actually served on her before she was decommissioned back in 1963.

  6. It was a rather tongue in cheek post, but I’m up for it. Of course it’ll be easier for those more local to this area. But actually, some of the best fun that can be had with music is for those who can play and sing simply to turn up and jam together with whatever music we have available.

But, as a pastor by trade, I do have access to a hall with keyboard and drums on site, and a sound system to plug anything else into.

    It can be done!

  7. As I was sat in this morning, on my pastors day off, waiting for the drizzle to pass in order to go over to the boat, I decided to pass the time the only way I know, playing me bass guitar to some loud and banging tunes from the stereo.

It was whilst doing this that I had a bit of an insane idea, that will probably get me kicked off the forum, but nothing ventured nothing gained, to ask how many other musicians we have, and if anyone has ever had the thought to create an NBN forum band, that we can use for meet ups or on other social occasions?

As well as playing the bass I also play guitars and drums (I was never popular with my neighbours), and Mrs PastorsDayOff is also a half decent bassist. I’m sure we must have some other musicians and some half decent singers on a forum this size.

  8. Go for it! Whenever we have hired for six nights, we have always hired up north and included a trip south, and always included Norwich. It maximises the cruising, and you see far more, and arguably the better part, of what the Broads has to offer.
