Yes many congrats Carole, have a wonderful day!

I really enjoyed the write up and the pics, and have to say the "mini beast" is just too cute

The weather has been perfect
Have seen the old NBN symbol here and there on boats out and about, and even spotted Malanka 'in the flesh' floating around Womack in the sun- stunning!
Now I just need more of this weather next month too, I wonder where I can put the order in....

My pring is now sparkling, my pringer spaniel walked and all is good with the world. Now, what to do with the sunny afternoon

Defo the pringer spaniel too

Well it's pring cleaning day today, so am right now on the dirty boat, by lunchtime I'm hoping to be on the clean one

Great pic! I'm just having morning brew in the sun at PH- do love this quiet time of the day

Tuesdays intended second coat application didn't happen due to work commitments / other stuff. However last night I did manage a full de-nib, whit spirit wipe down followed by second application. I see this morning it has dried nicely so will get the third coat on today.
Of course as expected, MrsG has started making noises about having the mast hung up in our conservatory, things like
"Just how long is that thing going to be in here for"
My reply:-
"Not nearly as long as your new mantelpiece thing was sat on the lounge floor my dear"
That'll hold her for a few more days I hope
Griff
I don't know what's most appropriate here - "brave" or "death wish"......

I’m loving the tales, so very engaging. Please do post more- I cannot wait to read the next instalments!

Sincere condolences for your loss Alan, my thoughts are with you and your family. I hope you will be able to take some comfort and strength from the kind words of your many friends here at NBN at this difficult time x

Looking very confident there Robin, quiet and smooth, making ground nicely. As long as you stay calm, and take it all one step at a time without rushing then you will be all good!

Beautiful Helen, well done!

Have you ordered the blue fendoffs for each corner of the car
OMG!!!!!! What a brilliant idea.....
To keep Griff happy, they must be able to be be pulled up for all usual and straightforward journeys, but mandatory deployment for all supermarket car parks should be in place....
What is it with those places? it's like being on the dodgem rink at a fairground...I am always on complete alert if I enter such areas as it seems to draw more than it's fair share of "less spatially aware" drivers....
IMHO obv

I kept my level head. I am pleased that I did not begin to make silly errors just because I was under pressure or feelings disheartened.
Good on you Robin, remember how you found the strength and concentration to complete the majority of the requirements well, many others wouldn't have been able to do that.
Now carefully file that memory away somewhere accessible- it will prove invaluable in the moments before your next test!
-
Oh no, you must be really disappointed. However, my advice for what it’s worth would be not to dissect the reasons for him not giving the pass any further, but actually park that right now. ( pun may have been intended!!)
Rather, focus on the areas of the test that you did well and where no issues were evidenced - they will be far more numerous I’m sure. You were clearly well prepared for this test, you feel reasonably confident in your ability and have the considered opinion of your instructor who has far more experience of your driving than anyone else and who is clearly surprised it wasn’t a clear tick this time.
Don’t forget you are in good company- a good proportion of people don’t get the pass first time- it really just gives you even more experience to take forward into your next test!
Enjoy lads week, and then get the papers in for round 2

Ah... that depends on budget I would say. The top end of Windermere has some lovely hotels with lake view and close to Ambleside which is lovely, BUT they cost.
If you are a member of the YHA the Youth Hostel here has the same lovely views.
Go further from the beehive of Bowness/Windermere/Ambleside and you will get better deals.
The Waterhead at Conison is Ok. Lovely views, a bit dated decor. Sweet garden, from which we were able to launch the dinghy, leading to the lake and a short walk to the Conison Water Centre, boat hire, steamer stop great cafe. On the other side of the Water Centre is a nice campsite run by the council with lake beach.
The National Trust is strong up here and they also have camping as well as , most probably, holiday lets at their properties.
We hired an old mill north of Kendal a few years back which was cheaper as just outside the NP boundary, in the next hamlet to the one Postman Pat is based in(!) It was wonderful and slept 6 I will pm you the info when I get home if you are interested.
For top of the range the Lakeside at the south end of Windermere is first class, but we can’t afford to go there these days!
Spring/Autumn is best the place really is too busy in summer when all is said and done.
I think the Lakeside is perfect, stunning location and views- I got married there

Falling in is easy, getting out not so. A lesson to us all, are we able and capable?
We have a system onboard 'B.A' in place that works. It has been put to use for real with no issues so we know it works.
When I have 'Newbies' onboard I give them a comprehensive safety brief with do's and don'ts then a fire, flood and MOB overboard briefing. I also carry out the same briefing prior to sailing with the entire crews of the Lads Week. I expect / demand all crew members to pay attention to this brief and we don't sail until it has been completed. With regards to MOB briefing it doesn't take long, it has got plenty of Yorkshire speak in it and as we have found out on more than one occasion it works. Of course it is based on experience gained from my years with in the RN just tweaked somewhat to suit the Broads environment. We have had no issue / difficulty recovering MOB's back onboard as a result, in double quick time too
And just where is the OP of this thread? We the forumites have been offering plenty of advice / tips examples etc etc and not a peep out of him. An acknowledgement or even a small thankyou would not go amiss
Griff
Just a suggestion, but might you consider sharing MOB/safety procedures on the forum? Obviously I may have missed something, but can’t remember seeing a quick guide/ hints/tips kind of thing on the handy information section covering this type of thing?
It may be that forum needs to check with a recognised training org before publishing something, but I think it would be a valuable resource for both newbies and some not-so-newbies to check we’ve all covered our bases- never too old to learn something, or at least take comfort in knowing you know it!

Thank you Wyndham, but it’s nowt more than a good dose of common sense, the most precious things in my life are those two little beings.
My kids + their safety = my responsibility. Simple sum really...
It’s a shame there wasn’t a ranger around to see what you did today, I’m sure a few words of advice would have been carefully imparted.

Grendel, if you do upgrades and fix bits of issues in the course of lads week, I'm sure you don't need to hire from anywhere, there may be a queue of us offering our boats up for you - now, where did I put the to do list.....
