I'm sorry if this thread is really for Mince Pies!.

It was but the thread drift is playing into my hands

At the moment I am in the lead of the pie eating contest. (5)

Only 10 days to go and I will win if this keeps up. Yay for me winning!!!

It's only a pudding when it's a Suet pudding mix.

So, according to Tesco (with my highlighting)

"With our Atora Vegetable Shredded Suet, you'll make flaky pies and heart-warming casseroles that friends and family will love"

Pastry can be made with flour, fat and water. Suet is the fat. Which means Suet pudding is made from pastry. QED

Also - Delia says its a pastry

If Delia says its pastry - then its pastry

Also, where do we all stand on flaky v shortcrust pastry on Mince Pies?

This could go on and on.

  3. Steak and Kidney Pie = Pastry on top and bottom

Steak and Kidney Pudding = Pastry on top and bottom

So exactly the same thing but one is SERVED UPSIDE DOWN

If I bung an apple pie on a plate and then put another one next to it but upside down does one become a pudding?

It seems to me that someone needs to urgently look into this.

We always have a steak and kidney Fray Bentos  in the boat pantry …. yummmmmm

Love a Fray Bentos. Is it described as a pie on the package?

They clearly don't have a bottom so can't be a pie.

I feel a claim for a PPI (pretend pie infiltration) miss selling coming on.

    I assume that’s 4 boxes?

If not, more commitment and practice required!

I am now up to 5 individual ones. Will be 6 by the end of the evening. I seem to be streaking ahead in this contest.

Chelsea14Ian - You are not in contention as "More than 4" doesn't count as a real number,

  6. I was learning to ski and went to somewhere in Austria. I was determined to learn without lessons and after 20 mins was getting nowhere.

A bloke came past and I asked him "Do I zig-zag down the hill or do I zag-zig?"

He said "Its no use asking me - I am a tobogganist"

So i said "In that case can I have 20 Benson and Hedges and a box of matches please?"

  7. Lovejoy had the same issue with the keel.

This was partly due to a boatyard dragging a 35ft boat out on a trailer made for a 20ft boat and partly due to a very thin layup.

You could see how thin after we got it out of the water and the temporary patch that held the newly cracked keel together fell off and a large quantity of water rushed out.

Robin repaired it properly but I know it was a bit of a job and increased the money in the boatyard Swear Jar considerably

  8. 50 yds away from the Ferry is Flavours. Been there a couple of times and the food and service is brilliant.

On a day when the Ferry was heaving, we were the only people in Flavours.

Owner/ chef/ whatever told me we were the only people in that day. Such a shame as its a lovely place but with only a handful of customers a day, I can't see it lasting long. Shame.

No idea, it may have just been a fun idea of the chap whose boat the dinos were on. Unless someone else from the show can enlighten us. They were fun though, and lit up once the sun had set.

Tabitha Rose had her timing spot on. Just imagine if the reverse had failed when we were up at the Geldeston locks. At least Dave and others were around to help out at Beccles.

As Lovejoy had only just been re launched after a bucket load of work I didnt have time to sort out lights and flags.

I asked Mrs Lovejoy if she could bring some sort of lighting from the Christmas box and she arrived with the dinosaurs. Thats about it really. No reason other than they were first thing out of the box

I may very well bring them again next year though.

  10. If you want to get all prim and proper (and this is for wire and rope)

Groove diameter should be around 5% bigger than the rope

Groove depth should be 1.5x rope diameter

Groove angle of around 30 to 45 degrees

All well in principle but these dimensions only allow for about a 12 degrees inclusive lateral deflection from vertical. You would probably get a lot more swinging on a mudweight.

For your chain it would be completely different so the above is no help to anyone in this case.

Just take the old one, copy that and refit.

I would go with Delrin or Nylon 6.6 available here (and other places)

    https://www.directplastics.co.uk/nylon-6-6-rod

Nylon 6.6 is hygroscopic but this is only a real problem with tight fitting applications.

Easier to machine than standard Nylon 6 as well

  11. So I dont think I ever got to the bottom of Potter

I always had it as Potter Hayum

Recently been told it should be Potterum

Just so you know, I was told Potterum by a self identified "local" who had moved here four years ago.

    Any other suggestions?

they never complete that list andrew, it grows as each item gets ticked off, however they will complete all those things on the list that need doing out of the water.

Griff dont snuggle up too close to Lovejoy, you dont want to be catching anything from there.

Nothing to catch now. All the infectious bit are in the skip.

We do have a template for the shaped bit on the pointy end which you can hire. And lots of Utile just in case you need more than expected.
