  1. Hi Barry

Under our helm we have the fuse box for the domestic system (blade type fuses). I had to do a bit of rewiring, as we had things like the bilepump, water pump and horn all wired together through a 30 amp fuse (hire yard botch job). So I put in a second fuse box spurred off the main one in order to separate these various circuits to their own dedicated fuses. This left me with some spare fuse positions, one of which I took for the nav light switch, and another for the instrument lights.

I was toying with a forward searchlight, but having read the earlier posts here, I shaln't bother now. I have only once night navved on the Broads, and have to say my night vision was non-existent (no moon + heavy cloud = bloody dark!), so had to resort to a torch. At least the nav lights now give us that comfort factor of being able to find a suitable mooring without panicing when dusk approaches early and late in the season.

Thanks for that info,Mark, don't know what i'll find when i take off the dash.

  2. Hi All

I am currently having a new dash board made for our boat, and have noticed upon removal that the casing on our Morse control lever is broken. I can get a complete new one easily enough but they are expensive, so does anyone know where I may be able to source a second hand casing?

    Hi,Mark,

Try Clive, Richardsons they may have some spare in good condition,as you say they are expensive new. :wave

  3. Sorry Barry, can't help with the question, but - at the risk of hijacking your thread temporarily - I want one of these for rowing back from the pub: http://marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=NT6250&Category_Code=caps-hats&Store_Code=mrst

Ha,Ha,very good Bruce,as you say only good for rolling back from the pub in your dinghy,

Will see you on the sunday on the photo shoot as i am only an amatuer as are most people should be good to see how the pro's do it instead of like me willy nilly.

    :grin::grin::grin:

  4. Barry, Is this for the boat you are going to keep in our marina???

If so and you are not in a immediate rush to fit them for a month or so I will gladly help you fit them when I'm next up to the boat for a few days. Ive got all the tools for the job in my shed on the boat. xmas4xmas4xmas4

No,Pete that has already got them as standard its for our old broads cruiser which is a lot bigger, thanks anyway, have a good christmas, see you in the new year. xmas6cheersbarcheers

  5. xmas2 Barry! I'm a bit lost, do you have existing Nav lights? or are you fitting new ones from scratch, either way it's not that a hard job, This diagram shows you how it's done but disregard the cable gauge and the fuses it says use, and put them on a seperate fuse (not sure what amp fuse it is offhand), you'll need to get the correct gauge wire to suit your new lights, I think if it's single cables it's 24/0.30 and if it's twin cable it's 2x 24/0.30, personaly I prefere single cables, I think Antares and a couple of others recommend the marine tinned cable,, the actual switch will need to be on your dash somewhere, you may even have a spare on there you can use, as you can see barry it's not rocket science, just work out your cable routes first, cos hiding cable is the hardest part on a boat,,,

    Frank,,,

Thanks,Frank,Yes it will be a new fitting just bought the set as you say the difficult bit will be hiding the cable runs, yes i have a spare switch on the dash i could connect to,also it could be easier to fit the stern light seperately so as to use less cable around the boat with a seperate switch.would not use the lights very often but it gives you an option if its getting dark and you over run on time.I will also need a searchlight type of lamp to see where i am going.

  6. What a brilliant story Shaune and Jill glad you like the Broads you WILL come back i am sure, and you will probably get married and have another holiday here on a boat and you will bring your children and they will love it as well. I first came in 1958 amd now i live here with my wife Olive. :-D :wavecheersbarcheers

  7. Just heard on the news that Connisseur cruisers of Wroxham are transfering there boatbuilding abroad with the loss of 40 jobs. don't know at the moment if that means the boat hirings part being sold also the moorings there being sold. Will try to find out some more. I heard this rumour some few months ago and now its come true.

  8. Hi John

If you are booking Idlways through Riverside Holidays Ltd you will be offered a parking permit when you arrive at £30 per week in The River Thurne Tenants Association car park - the old Bridge Inn site by the bridge.

My neighbour on the River Thurne is catching bream faster than he can net them!

    Regards

    David

£30 a week thats disgustingly high, even the boatyards only charge £10 a week personally i would not pay it,its probably cheaper in the carpark next to the fish n chip shop by the bridge or park in the village after dropping off your things i know its a little walk.

  9. I saw it on the NBF today that some chap was talking to an ex engineer at Acle and he said Connoiseur cruisers are looking for another place to moor there boats as Wroxham bridge is getting difficult to go thro due to flooding and constant high waters i have just moved to there yard this year.doh. also Potter Heigham bridge is sinking on one side.

  10. Flat type Barry is just a flat piece of rubber cut to the right shape - bit like a head gasket on a car.

I are assuming the leak is between the bowl or pan and the tank???

Yes,Paul, bit worried that when i unscrew said nuts something will fall in pan and i have to put my hands in to retrieve it, UGH Pooo, sorry for the pun. :o:o:o Name 0f toilets are Traveler..

  11. Tried to start my Honda 10HP engine today. none starter, question: if i tilt the engine on my transom to keep it out of the water and clear of all the rubbish floating there so keeping the waterways clear will the oil drop down into the cylinders so making it hard to start. The propellor is only about 6 inches off the water so tilt does not look to excessive to me.anyone else had this problem if it is that. Plenty of clean fuel,Battery charged ok had a service in november.Last time out 2 weeks ago had same problem started after about 8 mins trying and had to leave the choke open to stop it from stoping after around 15 to 20 minutes was ok to put choke in.
