  1. August Dates just added (and additions to July).

July sees the return of the Water Rats Jazz Band and on another day Morris Dancing is brought to you by Kemps Men. The White Horse Beer Festival includes no less than six bands playing across the weekend of the 7th July.

August sees the Ranworth Village Beer Festival taking place with live music from four bands across the weekend of the 11th August. The Swan in Loddon also has a rare live music event - catch it while you can!

    See them all HERE

I get my information from contacting pubs direct and from various websites and just wonder if I am missing any events that are taking place. If you know of anything I am missing please tell me on here and I will include it.

  2. More Live Music and other events have been added HERE

The listing now goes as far as the end of July and includes the Yarmouth Folk Group Festival playing out in the Dog at Ludham Bridge from the 16th to the 18th June and the White Horse Beer Festival in Upton where they will have live music from the 7th to the 9th July. Prize for the most intriguing band name this month goes to "Everybodies Dead Dave" who are live at the Kings Head in Loddon on the 8th July.

  3. The "live music" page has been updated to show events up to the end of June.

Interesting to see that the Bell Inn at St Olaves has restarted it's afternoon "Music on the Patio" gigs again. Must have paid off for them last year. The Dog at Ludham Bridge is continuing it's weekly concerts and entertains the Yarmouth Folk Group on the weekend of the 16th to 18th June. This was a great event last year. The place was packed and though the evenings are dominated by folk singers most of the songs were humorous and there was also some light-hearted poetry reciting.

    The listing is HERE

  4. My guess is given that the picture was taken this mid-afternoon, it is highly likely all three Barnes boats were manned by staff taking their respective new skippers on trial runs, so probably no real concerns. The image repeated below does appear to show two gents similarly dressed alongside the helmsmen.

  5. This month's update is now online. You can now find events for April and May - including the Easter, Mayday and Spring Bank holidays. The Dog at Ludham Bridge is now trialing live music on each weekend from the beginning of May and we have a new live music venue with the Waveney at Oulton Broad, where they seem to be offering an alternative to the bands at the Lady of the Lake at weekends. Details here:

  6. What a great advert for the Broads. Without any evidence I would suggest more men than women suggest a holiday on the Broads to their family and it would be the lady of the house who needs convincing it is not a camping holiday on water. This lady will help convince many people who have never considered a holiday on the Broads.

  7. Hi Rick,

I put together a monthly listing of live music across the Broads throughout the summer months.

    https://www.norfolkbroadsboathire.biz/Norfolk_Broads_live_music_guide.asp

I am therefore in regular touch with the venues and I see that the New Inn, Horning, The Kings Arms Ludham and the White Horse in Upton on the Northern Broads rely on live music events to bring the custom in through the summer season. The first two have weekly events whereas the White Horse is fortnightly. Weekly quizzes are also popular. I remember that Sid, the former landlord, would have weekly events (twice weekly in the main season) to coincide with the start and finish days for Herbert Woods. It made a good first or last night. Sid did say he was aware staff at Herbert Woods were recommending the "night" when asked for suggestions.

Regarding the actual venue for music, we attended whenever on holiday and the music would begin around 9.30pm and go on till around 11.30pm. Food service had finished by the start time and people did stay on. As an alternative what about using the family room (below) unless you have other plans for it.

    Regards

    David

By the way, when you are up and running, if you let me know about any events, I will include them into the listing. There is no charge.

  8. The Live Music and Other Events page is back on-line and featuring what's on in the month of April - including of course Easter. Sadly there is now no Lion Inn at Thurne so we have lost that venue. Nevertheless, there are still 32 events listed so still plenty of choice if you want a afternoon/evening of entertainment. You can find the page here:

  9. I remember looking at the Hoseasons brochure  in 1974 (could be 75?) and choosing a Calypso from Wilds in Horning. The image in the brochure was just a line drawing as it was new that year.  I walked up the hill from our house to the phone box armed with a pile of 2 shilling pieces and was very disappointed to hear the Hoseasons girl tell me that the boat was already booked for my chosen week. However, she did tell me she had an alternative with a company called King Line - also in Horning. They were so new they had not made it to the brochure. Anyway a little hesitantly, we booked Calypso King with them and were delighted upon arrival with the all white appearance and the then luxury fit out of the boat. It had central heating - we didn't even have that at home! and all mod cons. You could see other boaters looking admiringly at the boat as they went passed by. The only draw back was that the helm was under cover as the sides could not be rolled back as in a Hampton Safari. It was like driving in a greenhouse with all that glass around. Nevertheless, we went on to hire Calypsos another two or three times after that. I remember the lady at Kingline telling me they had been their best acquisition as they were "indestructible".
