  1. I have one of these.

    Less than £100

In Automatic mode it's simple Point-and-shoot. It does have some more advanced features which you/your grandaughter can explore later.

It takes photos upto 10MegaPixels, but I tend to only use it at 7MP.

Small enough to fit in my jeans pocket, with me barely noticing it's there.

Let me know if you want me to send you some example photos taken with it.

  2. If you can manage fine without a bow thruster, then simply avoid using it.

They're best used when you're stationary, or moving very slowly. I only tend to use them is when reversing into a stern on mooring.

They should only be used for a couple of seconds at a time, otherwise the motor can burn out, or you drain your batteries. They are NOT good for turning the boat around whilst someone else holds the back of the boat in to the bank, as I've witnessed before. Use the ropes for this.

  3. Someone more knowledgable on the different hire boats will probably be able to give you more information on particular boats.... in terms of bridges though.... there's 2 that may cause you problems: Wroxham bridge and Potter Heigham bridge. Beyond Wroxham bridge is a picturesque stretch of water that leads to the village of Coltishall. Beyond Potter Heigham bridge is horsey mere and hickling broads, two remote and wild areas of the broads. Try googling, or searching the forum for these places to find out some more about them.

  4. Apologies if this has been mentioned before....

I believe if a good job is done of this, it could easily be made into a book. I'm sure lots of visitors to the Broads would be interested in "then" and "now" photos of their favourite places.

  5. If that is the only copy of the image you have, you'll find it very difficult to enlarge it without losing quality.

I'd suggest looking through your recycle bin or your memory cards to try and find the original.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news :(

  6. You might like to check out the Gadget show website on channel 5.

I don't know about this particular review, but I'd treat the Gadget show reviews a bit skeptically, as they seem to be biased towards a particular product. For instance they wanted to test typing speed.... the first laptop was one that the guy had been using for the past x years, the second he'd never used before, obviously he could typer quicker and better on the one he'd been using for all those years before.

  7. Your current printer could be fixable. Firstly I'd try updating your printer drivers and secondly try replacing the print cartirdges, as they can become partially blocked if they're quite old.

    Hi all,

I am having problems with my current printer printing photo's. I know they are not as good as profesional printers, but can anyone recommend a good ink jet printer which will print my already not perfect pictures. At present I have an Epson stylus DX6000 it has decided it is not compatable with Vista depite working ok for 6 months prevously???? Now it works but with very poor Quality.

    Regards Bob :(:(:Stinky

  8. I quite liked it, but questioned if it was that responsible for the error messages that popped up on my laptop whilst i was on site, and stopped when the snow went away xmas3:o

so thats why I voted no, not that i was trying to be a Christmas Kiljoy :)

    Julz :wave

Yeah, it did cause a problem, I brought it up in the site problems forum.

  9. I've seen some reviews of SLR's on here, but none on Point and Shoot cameras. Could we perhaps create a sticky, with links to both reviews of SLR's and P+S cameras? That way someone interested in a camera would just be able to look at a single thread to find links to all the relevant reviews.

Here's my review of my Samsung L210, I'll probably edit it a little bit over the next couple of days to neaten it up.

Over summer, in the process of tidying up the kitchen, my camera ended up in the washing machine, needless to say it didn't last very long after that. With a holiday to Canada and Alaska coming up I was in urgent need of a new camera. My requirements are probably typical of many amateur/casual photographers like myself, they were as follows:

    • [*:1bts0ijv]Small enough to fit in my trouser pocket
      [*:1bts0ijv]Decent photo quality
[*:1bts0ijv]Large/expandable capacity (I took about 6GB's of photos in a 2 week period)
[*:1bts0ijv]Reasonably cheap (I was a poor student at the time)

My parents had the Samsung L70, which I had always liked, so decided to try and get something from the same range. Having searched many reviews and looked at many sample photos I plumped for the L210.

The specs for the camera can be found here. In summary, it is 10.2MPixels, 3x optical screen and a bright 2.5" screen. It has all of the standard features you find on point and click cameras nowadays, red-eye reduction, face detection, image stabilization and auto contrast balance.

What I particularly like is the ease of use (true point and click), but at the same time, it has a number of modes that lets you set a much wider range of settings.

In conclusion, it does everything that I wanted from it, so for £99 think it was a good deal.

    Here's a sample photo:

More photos taken by this camera on my Canada and Alaska trip can be found at: http://gallery.me.com/peteelawrence#100024 (some photos were taken from inside a coach, hence why there's a lot of reflection on some of them)

  10. Try Norfolk Country Cottages (http://www.norfolkcottages.co.uk) they have a range of properties across Norfolk, including quite a few on/near the Broads, some of which have moorings. As great as it is being on the water, I think it's definately worth getting out and exploring some of the other parts of Norfolk such as the many coastal towns (Blakeney etc) at some point, and a cottage tends to give you the benefits of the Broads, and the ability to travel further afield. (and it's cheaper :))

  11. Something those of you who want to get under Potter Heigham may want to try: rather than hire a boat for the whole week, hire a larger boat for 5 days, and then spend another two days on a smaller weekend boat. Whether or not Herbert Woods (or other boatyards based near PH) would be co-operative in facilitating this is a different matter, but surely it's a good compromise? You get the space of a larger boat for the majority of the week, and the ability to get under Potter Heigham at the same time.
