  1. Austerity has a lot to do with buying online, that, and human nature to sniff out a bargain.

I live in a time warp town where we have lots of privately owned shops, and often find I can buy what I am looking for there, and I do.

However, there are items that you just cannot buy localy, and that is where the internet can and does help the consumer.

As a Scot we know all about saving a bawbee or three! :)

    cheers  Iain.

  2. Maybe I have been very lucky, but, so far, I have had no trouble whatsoever with Amazon. All items have been delivered promptly, some very quickly, and all well priced.

As for EBooks, the Kindle ticks most of the boxes.

My wife likes SBC products and although QVCUK sell them, Amazon sell them cheaper and much cheaper P&P too.

Horses for courses as they say.

  3. If Mr Gove had his way there would be NO school holidays at all!

I thought Alan (Freedom Holidays) remarks were very well put.

Personally I cannot see the Status Quo changing soon.

    cheers  Iain.

  4. With regards to "Screwfix" they are part of the Kingfisher Group (B&Q) and yes some of their electrical parts are IMHO at best average. However on certain bulk buys they often beat Electrical Mainstream Wholesalers.

I saved a considerable amount on Door Handles at Screwfix. Must say the China option is something I must look into soon.

    cheers Iain.

  5. Smallworld John, I am Ayr born and bred and the old A&G pub was my drinking hole with all the lads from Miles Electricians, Beresford Terrace at pay off nights, as for the old Cally..I was called out to that hotel the day after the fire there early 70's. For my sins I wired the first ever sauna at that hotel, it came all in Finnish and had to get the instructions translated lol

I do hope my fellow "Honest Men" looked after you well?

    cheers Iain.

  6. In the unlikely event of a fouled prop...aye right...been unlucky twice...both times farmers rope round the prop. Sooo in the unlikely event, I  always take out diving insurance just incase those naughty farmers throw more rope into the rivers!

  7. Its the possible falling off the stern that scared me. Also Pru crossing those locks without a LifeJacket  I found scarey.

I have however, set the Sky box to record the other three programmes.  :)

    cheers  Iain.

  8. Never a problem taking boats through in days gone by, as I said on other forum that class of boat can be as low as 6ft7" with all bits down. Pacific Dawn an example.

Oh for the days of Charlie Crowe he took you through with very little to spare. Think the yards have put pressure on the pilots and want good clearance now at all times.

  9. I know all about paying top prices as my wife was a teacher so always had to book high season prices three times a year. Now that we are retired we can come and go as we please and NOT at high rate prices either. I like that. :)

So its 11 day break this time coming and hopefully another week in September.

  10. I was approached by 5 ladies who were moored along from me at Sommerleyton on a very windy day. I had been watching them trying - unsuccessfuly - to leave the mooring.

The skipper cooeed me and asked me any idea how to get the boat off the quay.I jokingly said, aye if you buy me a pint at The Waveney in OB tonight lol

Got them all back on board and proceeded to tell them what to do. The girls faces were a picture as they saw their boat move off the quay. I was given a big wave and blown kisses, who needs IBIZA! lol

Oh yes and I did get that pint, but at The Commodore, those girls sure knew how to party !  cheersbar

    cheers  Iain.

  11. 52 days till I am on Gleaming Light from Herbert Woods. Any dealings I have had so far have been first class. This is year 38 for me and 42 for the rest of the crew. :Stinky

Now all we need is lot of nice weather for all people boating, :)  But, if you holiday in UK you just take the clothes for all weathers to be on the safe side!

  12. Hi Matt,

I have good and bad days with my Arthritus. I have never been up to end of navigation in years.

It was about 1980 my last venture up to there. Good idea though, thank you.

    cheers  Iain.
